Hide behind a gen to counter BBQ?
I've been watching dbd for a few years now. Watching streamers and videos but only started playing the game last year in October.
I just found out that apperently u can hide behind gens to counter bbq? Does that really work? Is there a trick to it? Is it inconsistant? Is it old news?
Does anyone actually do this and does it work?

Yes people do it often and it does work. If you see the angle the survivor's being placed you can crouch behind the gen away from it and avoid BBQ seeing you. It's relatively consistent, not much trick to it other than crouch for a couple seconds putting the gen between you and the hook location.

When I play as the killer and people do that I can still see their red silhouette.

They're not doing it correctly then.

This. It is pretty unreliable and if the killer expects it they can just adjust the angle and see part of your aura.
chances are - if it „works“ , the killer actually just saw another aura quicker and decided to go for that surv.
it may work if you are hiding in the right angel and adjust accordingly to killer-kindred can help here. But lockers are the most reliable counter.

So as long as the gen completly covers me then it should work? I'm def gona be testing this out. Idk how I never found out about this before. Thanks.

It's not perfect, but yes.
You need the right angle, but the Killer can in turn try to get an angle on you.

Next patch that wont work cause of the new auras on ptb

It does work to a degree, as people have said the angle is all important. Also, when I'm playing killer I'm glancing around the map for BBQ aura's so I'm looking for the most obvious ones and I can probably miss an aura that's mostly hidden by a generator.
(and obviously hiding of the aura only works on uncompleted gens).

the red aura for a survivor is bright and the gen is dark. HOWEVER the gen blocks line of sight, but you might see the bright red around the bottom or edge of the gen. it works in that sense but it is all about the angle at which you see it. so the answer is it depends, but it is possible to hide from bbq that way and it is also possible your leg is sticking out etc.

They have to have the perfect angle, directly opposite where the hooked person is. Even a millimeter out would show enough aura to see them as the killer walks away from the hook. A lot of experienced survivors know the angles although there can be errors on their part too sometimes. Lesser experienced survivors think the gen is a magical aura blocking shield and crouching near it, at any angle, will make them invisible.
