Chapter Idea: Guardians Of Stone And Crystal
The Guardian
4.6m/s
32m π―
Tall β
Power: Golem's Duty
Born from sorcery and tasked with defending the King's secrets; keeping the land safe and barren. An age long slumber replenished the magic and strength lying within.
Special Ability: Disturbed Slumber
When the trial starts, your movement speed is Slightly decreased and your Terror Radius is Moderately decreased. Your energy passively charges over time. Finding and chasing survivors causes the energy deep within you to charge faster. Putting a survivor into the Dying State grants an extra boost in energy gains.
Placed around the map are Sorcerer's Crystals. Draining the Crystals energy, completely, grants a 50% boost to energy. Only 3 Sorcerer's Crystals spawn. Once drained completely they shatter and do not respawn.
Special Ability: Banishment
Press the Power Button, once your energy is full, to activate Banishment. While active, your movement speed is Slightly increased and your Terror Radius returns to normal.
During Banishment, successful attacks afflict the survivor with the Encumbered status effect for 120 seconds. Any survivor afflicted by Encumbered has their co-operative actions reduced by 50%. The Guardian also gains the ability to summon Rock Formations into the environment. Rock Formations cannot be placed directly in doorways or directly beside a vault. A Rock Formation lasts until The Guardian returns to Disturbed Slumber or is dismantled by survivor's. Up to 3 Rock Formations can be summoned, they recycle upon overuse. Rock Formantions take 10 seconds to dismantle solo. Banishment has a duration of 105 seconds.
The Guardian:
In the long forgotten ages, when the world's energy was harnessed and manipulated by the Sorcerer's of the four kingdoms, a King ruled over them all, unopposed and tyrannical.
His sword a symbol of the iron that he ruled by. His servant, the wisest of the Sorcerer's, offered tribute after tribute of magical incarnations.
As all the kingdoms looked on at his abuse of power, a plot began to unfurl amongst the citizens. A siege of epic proportions, merely a guise for the subtle infiltration they had in store for the King.
As evening grew on, the sky started to paint itself red. Hideous screams and awful explosions devastated the Kings kingdom.
The ragtag group snuck deeper into the castle, no guard or servant before them. As they approached the throne room, they heard an almighty crack from above. As they looked on, dust and debris raining down around them, they saw the glow of crystal. An eerie yellow hew, beaming from the very foundations of the castle wall. A crack, followed by a groan, as if the castle itself was coming alive.
The group pushed into the throne room to confront the King, to their surprise, was sat there grinning at them, his sword imbedded in the ground before him. He smiled a wicked smile and twisted his sword deeper into the concrete. The groaning grew louder behind them, and the castle felt as though it would cumble and crush to pieces. They turned to see a giant of a creature, decorated with the very stone of the walls around them. They looked around amongst themselves, terror on each of their faces. Those were the last images the group saw as the giant creature lumbered towards them, arms raised over head.
Over the ages, the great creature slept beneath the rock, one with the planet. The age of magic at an end, the King who commanded it long dead. A fog swept over the world, preying on and consuming the age old fear. The creature stirred from it's slumber, the ground around it thick with fog and filled with the sounds of footsteps daring to tread a little too closely.
Kevin Morris:
As a child, Kevin was completely and utterly fascinated by the nature of the world. Whether it be the shape of a fruit, the sound of an engine, the smell of the docks; Kevin was lost in wonder over it all. It helped that his parents actively encouraged his curiosity. Buying him encyclopedias and explaining the nature of things to the best of their ability.
As he grew up, he never lost that sense of curiosity. Some called him naive, others saw him as a burst of energy.
Late into his adult years, he had confirmed himself as the renowned expert on all things undiscovered. His eye never turning away from something of even the remotest oddity.
It was this keenness that saw him surrounded by the brightest students in the city, each aspiring to share his attitude for the world.
He spoke with them individally, and out of the 100 students interviewed, he decided on taking them all on an expedition of adventure and discovery to the shores of England. Kent, to be exact. His research into the ancient world led him to believe that under the sands of the shoreline cliffs, resided remnants of age old artifacts.
After settling everyone into the Cliffside Hotel, he got up extra early the next day and went on a prelimenary field scavenge. To get familiarity with the land and sea habits.
It was an hour into his scavenge when he noticed a gleam in the sand. He reached down and picked it up. The heat of it scorching his palm, he wrapped his sleeve around it and examined closely, a broken shard of a beer glass; tossed haplessly from the hotel balcony.
He chuckled and began to head back when he stumbled on the rocks. His head smacking the cliffs jagged edges, making him sway with dizziness; he collapsed to his knees. As his vision faded in and out of blackness, a thick fog swirled around him, and black legs hooking under him stopping him from collapsing. Before he knew it a feeling of weightlessness befell him and the sand cushoning his knees fell away. The wound on his head a memory, and vision clearer, he glanced around. The cliffs once towering over him replaced by an ominous glow of a campfire. He smiled, scratching his head and embraced the adventure before him.
