I'm in no way one of the devs, but I am going to say that it has something to do with sheer technical limitations and it interfering with other elements of the cosmetics. That and I'm sure most of us remember the spinning Kate hair fiascoes of previous patches.

It's even worse when the metalhead has the same thing. For a time, I was really into the sort of metal and heavy rock scene, and usually the guys had hair that was longer than what the characters in DbD have. Forget sexual orientation of characters, I wanna identify with having a massive damn ponytail!
