What's Oni's counterplay?
Full disclaimer: I play both sides but I’ve never played Oni, I didn’t buy the DLC so I don’t own him.
Aside from the obvious early game stuff (play safe and don’t get injured to avoid him getting his power, which is kind of unrealistic in random solo lobbies), what do I do against Oni in Blood Fury? It seems like he once he gets his power the first time he just keeps getting it super fast after that, and it doesn't seem like there is much actual counterplay to his power besides hoping that they're bad at aiming. But I'm happy to be wrong and I'd love to get some tips to help me survive if so. Thanks!

I'm an Oni main. What you mentioned about early game is correct and you should be playing safe. When he's in his power, there isn't much you can do, but you can try some things. Long walls and short loops completely counter his power, and can be found on most maps. You might also have to play his mindgames correctly, but the red stain is always visible giving you tons of counterplay. Most killers with set up shouldn't have much counters, because they require so much build up.

Loop around walls that would require the Oni to do a 180. It may come as a shock, but the Oni during his power can be looped almost as easily as an m1 killer. The best bet is to go to "thin loops" (you know about the long wall with a window on it? That's a pretty good loop against Oni if you know what your doing).

Run directly at him. The only way to defeat The Oni is to defiantly rush him and just DARE him to hit you. The Oni's honor will not allow him to strike down a brave warrior who is unarmed.

...fine. What others above have said is the only real defense against him when he's in his angry mode. You have some decent turn with Oni but if you're able to get to a short loop, it takes a lucky swing to hit you with his club. Ideally you want to just plain hide from him when he's running around but if that's not an option, the short loop is your best bet.

Run tight small loops while he has blood fury active. I would suggest trying to stay healed but you are risking Nurse Calling.
Also there is an Oni build that won't use Blood Fury so that he can basically see survivors all the time. So if you notice that Oni won't use Blood Fury expect that he knows exactly where you are.

To add to this.If you see him starting his demon dash to get to you,try to break line of sight behind a wall or something and wait at that exact corner. Most Oni expect you to just run and can get caught off guard by that trick.

If you want to prevent his tracking using your blood you could zig zag in every direction. Blatantly a waste of time but will obscure your movements late game.

As everyone here is saying, play it safe til someone gets hit. Then... Normal looping. Honestly, it's just normal loop gameplay. Sure, he can come out of nowhere and bonk you, but that is both avoidable (stealth play) and not what makes him strong. His strength lies in the fact that people DONT try to loop him, because he cannot use demon dash in a loop without the top knot add-on. All he has is his instadown. So, while between loops he is dangerous, while he's at a loop he's a lot less threatening so long as you keep an ear out when LoS is broken (you can literally pinpoint his exact position with his footsteps, he's as bad as Demogorgon.)

There's two things that I do. At a loop, I loop normally. In a deadzone, I 360. 360s are very consistent against a blood fury oni.

When all else fails, go immersed or in a locker while is power is active and you hear him nearby. If he can't find anyone and essentially wastes his power, it can do real harm to his chances of winning and tip the scales in your favor.

Never give him first hit. He starts as a M1 killer whos tall and easy to locate. Once he gets his power, well, long walls, windows and sharp corners help.

I can tell you know things about honor. :)

Actually, the survivor can know if his aura is being revealed by Oni addon. Just look at the blood balls: if they do not disappear in the air but only when you touch it, then he can see your aura for some seconds everytime you touch any blood ball.

Like I said in my first post, I play solo queue so this isn’t really in my control lol.

Killers with set up shouldn’t have counters? Trapper would like a word. :P

I don’t know what I’m doing, that’s the problem! Do you have any video examples?

Thanks for the link but I meant video examples for Oni in particular, I know how to loop in general.

if you jump in a locked it takes him out of his power to pull you out so you can deny him the power to snowball

That’s really useful to know, thanks!

Just like every killer's counter: do gens.
And you DON'T want Oni to have a clear view of you. Lose line of sight and use objects to block his dash. That's my opinion at least :/

Maybe like, try hiding. An Oni is unlikely to spend too much time searching around when there is a time limit on their power. I don't think i've ever seen someone in Blood Fury search a locker.
