4k = winning = fun?
I don't understand the obsession with getting a 4k, or pipping up, or winning on the killer side. Do you have to kill everyone to enjoy playing the killer role?
Full disclosure rank 5 killer rank 1 survivor(not that rank indicates skill). I mainly play killer for challenges and daily rituals, and survivor for the same reason, or when my friends want to play. The only time I've felt pressure to "win" is when my challenge specifies winning or for the adept achievements. On survivor I try to survive, and the only way it isn't fun is if I'm rushed out of the game with a Mori, or don't get unhooked. But it's not unfun because I died, it's unfun because I feel like I didn't get to play. On killer there isn't a comparable situation for me, as the hatch requires either all the gens to be done and a key, or I've already killed a few people, or I've had all game to play and the gates are powered.
Some survivors live, some survivors die, sometimes I only get a couple hooks, sometimes I get 4ks. What's the problem if one person gets the hatch? Was the game not fun if the survivors manage to escape through the exit gate?
What metric do you use that makes playing killer stressful instead of fun? How do you define a win on both sides in DBD? If I define "winning" as getting the most bloodpoints(the only reward mechanic in the game), then with BBQ and chili I win 99% of killer games.

As a Billy who wears a hat, I win if I fulfill my bbq obligations. Don't care what happens after.
As a huntress, I win if I 4k.
Bhvr is onto something with the upcoming killer specific ranks.

I’m a ho for bloodpoints. Killer gets 2500 deviousness for the wipeout. If I need it to max, I want it.

As a cannibal, I win if I drag one to the basement. It almost always ends with a 4k, thx to the commitment of swf.
As a spirit, I automatically win every game. No brane power required.
As a cowboy, I can never win because I can't detach the chains and just spear em all day.

For me fun games are close whether i win or lose. Games where i 4k with 5 gens are boring af. Games where gens are flying so fast i cant keep up are stressful.

Having achievements (either actual achievements, dailiy challenges, or rift challenges) is how I keep killer fun. I could go into a game with the 'Shock 4 survivors' daily, and I could get one hook the whole game, but if I spammed the ever-living hell out of that Shock Therapy and finished my daily, I had fun aha. I also never really focus on the 4k, but I do like to pip or at least safety. Depipping is just a little demoralizing. But overall, if the game went for a decent amount of time and I got a lot of interaction out of it, I'm happy. Getting a 4k in <5 min is not as fun for me as drawing the game out to like 10min with any killer, regardless of number of escapes. (Also because BP. I always joke I'm playing killer to farm big killer blood points.)

I never slug for 4k. It's boring and wastes two other people's time. Might as well gamble than to get the 4k. But then slugging for 4k frequently makes the difference between merciless and ruthless

Well.. for a killer a pip is usually tied to killing survivors. To pip without killing survivors usually means the survivors farmed YOU for points and even then it is hard to do.
A 2k is usually a depip or a safety if they farm you. a 3k is usually a safety or a pip with a really good game. and a 4k is usually a pip unless they suck and you down everyone and 1 hook.
Survivors can die and get a pip most of the time.
this is why 4k=winning=fun It is the only time the game doesn't tell you that you suck in the end game screen. Blame the devs.

4k = winning
But winning doesn't necessarily mean you had fun nor does it mean you had a satisfying experience.
Winning just means you successfully reached a predefined gamestate where the gamestate achieved is the one the game has told you to attempt to accomplish.
In particular the game states your goal of Killing the Survivors in the tutorial.

SWF = Doing Gens as fast a possible = fun?

Ah yes there always needs to be one of these posts that turns the thread into an us vs them situation, doesn’t there?

Because survivors don't think outside themselves and realize how idiotic thinking a killer wanting to win is a bad thing.

Did you misspell "brain" to be ironic?

Shockingly, a lot of people who gravitate towards playing the "killer" do so because they enjoy killing other players. Also shockingly, many people who play pvp games do so because they want to pit themselves against other players and win.
Just like an always-on pvp mmo, you get folks who join who just want to farm some corn, make a few robes, and occasionally go kick a few rats... And just like a pvp mmo, you find people who complain that someone stuck a knife in them while they were just "minding their own business" hauling thousands of gold worth of sellables to town.
Dbd encourages killer side to have to play hard and treat it like a pvp game. It also encourages survivor side to treat it more like a party game and not worry as much about the actual win. This weird break between the design philosophy for the two sides causes a lot of issues.

If killer his goal is 4k its ok np with that. The problem when he play so dirty to get it and say 'im killer dont expect me to be nice hehe' like he forget this is a game and people here to have fun times.

Blood points are all that matter. You spend them on the fun builds, everyone escapes but I have 4 BBQ stacks and 2x hooks or maybe 1 kill but brutal killer and lots of BP I'm happy. The only time its unfun is when you can barely get anything done and walk away with very few BP's which happens often with the Gen obsessed red squads who power through them so quickly that they don't even earn any BP's. I've had games were we all walk away with only around 9 to 10k each because gens popped so fast that I really only did a couple of chases. (its not a gen rush rant its a what qualifies as a disappointing match for me statement usually fault of my own being unable to properly pressure and down a coordinated team).
4 or 5 games like that and I think eh time to do something else its a waste of time tonight. Typically as they are usually the most unpleasant people to game with too.
It's not about farming I just want to play a game where I have impact on the outcome and get rewards for it rather than "I might as well just stand here and wait" kinda play.

I honestly don't understand the must 4k mentality. I get at higher ranks you practically need it to pip. But who cares? We all know piping really doesn't matter. If I'm killer all I care about if I got decent points and didn't get completely bodied. After that it doesn't really matter to me.

"then with BBQ and chili I win 99% of killer games."
This, yet Im told how hard Killer is.

I mean killing all the survivors is my one and only job. If they escape good on them but I'm not gonna make it easy for them to do that. That's like asking survivors to do all the gens and just not complete the last one.
