KILLER INSTINCT on Pyramid Head SHOULD Be an aura and be only AVAILABLE THROUGH ADD-ONS
(This is a post that's been updated and moved from the PTB archives, because I still believe in this posts' validity)
Much like The Hag's aura reading ability upon a survivor triggering a trap, the Killer Instinct effect for Pyramid Head should be an add-on only effect. Scarlet Egg, Misty Day..., and Leopard-Print Fabric should all add onto his power the Killer Instinct effect (instead of simply elongating base duration). The Hag's case is the best comparison, but The Nightmare's alternate pallet power also gets my point across to a lesser degree.
This aspect of Pyramid Head's power is like if Trapper had Killer Instinct on survivors that disarmed traps or if The Hag had Killer Instinct on survivors that triggered traps. These effects wouldn't add much to the killer and would prevent the power from having any add-ons that granted aura reading to the killer instead. The Trapper should have an add-on that shows the auras of survivors that disarm his traps, but this post is about how Pyramid Head's add-ons that elongate Killer Instinct should instead grant aura reading on survivors (like the mirror pieces Myers has). His base Killer Instinct should be removed and replaced with either nothing or a loud noise notification.

If the trails did not have any effect besides torment, then they would be useless against people who are tormented, they could just clean up all the trails they see. The killer instinct effect doesn't do much but it at least gives you some map knowledge, and can be used for tracking around loops. If it were a loud noise notification, that would just be annoying. I agree though that the killer instinct duration addons are pointless, and giving them aura reading would be a good way of improving them.

If anything, he should keep the killer instinct and have an addon that buffs it to an aura.

I would much prefer a -3% hindered effect and a more audible/repeatable audio sound (for tracking around loops) for survivor interactions with the trial than the killer instinct currently. I dislike that killer instinct is something that no survivor can avoid once triggered, unlike auras and many types of sounds produced by survivor interactions. I also dislike that the only thing I can use the trails for is killer instinct. The entire design seems geared toward preventing survivors from interfering at all with the killer's ability, and that comes at the cost of potential power, and I'm not a fan of that.

The thing is, it is a survivors choice to step on the trails when not being chased. If you are in a chase, they already know where you are. That and the KI is limited to only the TR... so I don't see what the issue is.

I would disagree, mainly because oftentimes there's some random, tiny piece of trail that's making no noise and is only visible from one side that I manage to step on while not in a chase. Then I get tormented after spending all that time being careful around the trails coded properly :/
Secondly, killers often just make guesses as to where survivors are when chasing them, so in several cases, a killer might lose track of a survivor temporarily, and for Pyramid Head, having a for sure indicator of where a survivor is might lead to an easy Punishment of the Damned down.
Also, I'm pretty sure KI isn't limited to terror radius (it has a different way of being measured). That was only a thing with legion, and it got removed.

KI is hardly reliable information, even on Legion, who it was built for. It doesn't show how far they are, as the , it works off of a pulse system, which can be fooled by the way...
You are correct about the TR thing, I forgot about that.

yeah, which is why the KI should be an aura. That's my argument; it should be removed from base-kit and be added as an aura through add-ons.

No. PH is absolutely fine at present. People seem to have learned to juke his shots, much the same as they would a Huntress or Deathslinger.

I gotta disagree, I think the Trails of Torment are great as is- if anything, as someone else said, they should get better buffs with add-ons into auras over killer instinct.
Also, I don't think you have great comparisons... Hag can know where a Survivor ran after triggering a trap without teleporting if she was close enough, because the Trap will turn to face whatever direction the Survivor went- besides, as a Hag, you don't chase. You push people into your web, and you slowly kill them. Unlike PH, you have no range. It's traps or nothing.
Trapper also can get valuable information from trap disarms depending on his add-ons- correct me if I'm wrong, but with Honing Stone putting survivors into the Injured status, they're easier to track and down. (Yes, I know it's not the same as an aura, but I think everyone can agree that Trapper needs some hard buffs and a look back over his add-ons.)
PH needs something more to his Trails because currently, all they give is Killer Instinct and Torment. (Which, Torment isn't always the best thing to use anyway.) And considering how fast Trails disappear (which, is sort of the other reason why I don't agree with your argument- Trails disappear really fast. Trapper's traps don't when they're disarmed. Hags traps do, but she can reset them and they have a limited range without certain add-ons, and can only be disarmed by either flashlights, or risking a hit if she isn't carrying someone.)
TL;DR: Trails are fine as is. Just don't walk straight into them and this won't really be a problem, as Killer Instinct isn't a game changer.

....But my post isn't about Punishment of the Damned? And your comment doesn't have anything to do with KI or aura reading?

hmm...this is generally all true. I'm not a fan of the "it's not powerful enough, and sometimes you can avoid it, so keep it" argument, mainly because if something is that way, it should be looked over and its purpose analyzed. Can it be made better? What is it doing now? Atmosphere? Something else? Is it just a filler effect so that the devs feel the need to look at that aspect in terms of effects and gameplay less?
It should be changed, and preferably to an aura read only useable with add-ons. For alternative passives, I think I offered some in the above comments.

I would agree but torment as a status condition and inflicting it is already a pain in the ass as it is I don't think it needs s nerf. ( or sidegrade whatever you want to call it)

it certainly is a pain to inflict. I certainly think it needs this sidegrade or at least add-on buff to be at least somewhat more useful in a trial. Pyramid Head is one of the killers whose playstyle doesn't completely change based on add-ons but is only made flat out better or worse (which I would argue is indisputably incorrect add-on design when applied to all killers).
