This is an update to mine and Seryka's perk idea "Howl of the Bountiful." For more information on this perk, check out the original post at this link: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/178193/new-perk-idea-howl-of-the-bountiful
Public's Reaction:
- There's been a lot of positive feedback regarding this perk's utilization due to it's ability to add diversity to gameplay and the fact that it brings in new decision-making aspects to the game
- It's recognized that while this perk would not be "meta," but it would still be fun to run with certain builds and in certain combinations
The Elephant in the Room (Biggest Issue With This Perk):
- This perk can be easily countered by simply 99'ing items rather than fully consuming them. Developers have shown disinterest in the practice of 99'ing items, as seen in their change to the game that now prevents items from being lost upon consumption (see version 3.6.0 patch notes). We're open to suggestions and any changes the community may have to prevent this from being an issue.
Synergy With Other Perks:
- Overwhelming Presence + Distressing - Overwhelming Presence is a perk that is relatively underused in the game right now, partially due to its lack of synergy with any other perks and lack of direct benefit to the killer. By pairing this perk with Howl of the Bountiful and Distressing, you can cause items to be depleted faster and therefore activate the exposed status effect on survivors using their items within your enlarged terror radius quicker. This combination could be powerful for information gathering and getting downs. I think many of us would agree that killer perk builds have gotten a little repetitive and this combination could add a new potential build to the rotation, making games a little less predictable and therefore more enjoyable. ("Also, if they use toolboxes with Overwhelming Presence and Howl of the Bountiful, survivors are gonna go bazonka" -Seryka)
- Territorial Imperative - Howl of the Bountiful has basement build potential, especially when paired with Territorial Imperative. If a killer is close to the basement, Territorial Imperative will not activate, but Howl of the Bountiful will, assuming the survivor entering the basement is searching the chest. This will notify the killer that someone is searching the chest in the basement (indicated by the highlighted aura of the chest) and allow them to make their way over to interrupt the unsuspecting survivor.
- Sloppy Butcher and/or Thanatophobia and/or Coulrophobia - Healing slow down builds are becoming quite common in the DBD community. These builds could be buffed by adding Howl of the Bountiful. Thanatophobia encourages survivors to heal so that their progress for everything else is not hindered and Sloppy Butcher extends the heal duration, making healing items run out faster and therefore less efficient. Coulrophobia also inflicts a penalty to healing progression speed to survivors within your terror radius. This means that survivors using items will suffer from the exposed status effect quicker than if perks like these were not in play. If an injured survivor is not able to complete a heal with a medkit due to these other slow down perks, it may seem useless to inflict an exposed status effect on them. However, Howl of the Bountiful also has the information gathering aspect to it by causing survivors to scream and reveal their location whenever they fully consume the item.
Synergy With Killers and Addons:
- Mint Rag Hag - can place trap on basement chest or simply teleport to the nearest previously placed trap whenever a survivor's location is revealed with the scream when they become exposed after using an item to maximize on the exposed status effect.
- High mobility killers (Freddy, Hillbilly, Demo, Nurse, Spirit, Oni)
- Undetectable killers (Pig, Speed Wraith, Monitor and Abuse Deathslinger, Myers, Ghostface)
- Huntress (cross map shots at highlighted chests or at icon for screaming survivor)
Thank you again to everyone who provided feedback on our original post. We're still very excited about this perk idea and the potential that it has. Feel free to comment any further suggestions you may have or any other ideas for builds and killer/addon synergy!
See you in the Fog!
