When did a film franchise end for YOU and what happened in your 'universe'? (possible spoilers)
Quite often, film franchises go past their shelf life and go stale. On some occasions, a particular storyline or event can make a series go sour.
So for you, what are some film scenarios that ended differently? What happened to the characters? How did it all end?
I sometimes disregard certain sequels etc if I feel they dilute the overall franchise.
Remember these are just personal interpretations.
Here's a few of mine (I have purposely left Halloween out as there are two new films on the way and I felt the 2018 was a worthy addition).
Prepare for a whole lot of dreams!
JAWS: All the other parts after the original didn't happen. They were the dreams of Martin Brody and his eldest son, Michael. Their traumatic experiences influenced the dreams later in life. A couple of years after the event of Jaws, Martin took early retirement from the police force. Michael became a marine biologist. Sean became the chief of police for Amity Island several years later. And there were no further encounters of great white sharks for the Brody family or Amity Island as a whole.
Friday 13th: Part VII (The New Blood) never actually occured. It was a medication induced dream which Tina had during treatment. My timeline also disregards Goes to Hell, X and Freddy. Jason is basically trapped in hell. After being trapped (Part VI - Jason Lives) at the bottom of the lake at Camp Crystal Lake (or Camp Forest Green), Jason was set free in part VIII (Jason Takes Manhattan). After being washed away by toxic waste, Jason awoke in hell...but his vision of heaven. Existing in a haunted limbo, strange visions appeared to him, perhaps dark dreams. His mother, family members, demons, a bladed glove, outer space: all so vivid. Jason soon forgot his former existence. He accepted he was truly trapped in the realm of the dead.
Jurassic Park: I totally disregard anything after the original. After the remaining survivors escaped the original park in 1993, the prospect of having dinosaurs in the modern world was reviewed. An emergency team was sent back to Jurassic Park and the remaining dinosaurs were disposed of humanely. The park was then closed and the structures dismantled.
Robocop: The third film never happened. After the events in Robocop 2, development of Delta City took place and breathed new life in to the Detroit area. Robocop was hailed as being the driving force in the eradication of crime in old Detroit. Robocop would remain active for a further decade, before his cybernetic organs started to conflict with his living tissue. Robocop died, and Alex Murphy was finally given a funeral with full honours. A golden statue of Robocop was erected in the centre of Delta City.
A Nightmare On Elm Street: Only the 1984 original matters At the end of the original film, Freddy had been defeated. Nancy showed no fear toward Freddy, draining him of his power and effectively killing him. After Freddy is pulled out of the dream world, the barriers of the normal and dream world are disrupted. The image of Nancy's mother being attacked by a flaming Freddy and the skeleton were simply dream visions. The ending (with the car driving off and Nancy's mother being pulled through a window), is simply a normal dream. Freddy had been defeated and his soul was trapped in his personal hell, where he was burned alive each passing day.

For me, the Alien franchise ended with the second film, Aliens.
The other films were simply -drum roll-....DREAMS 😁 that Ripley had in hypersleep. There was no facehugger onboard etc. Ripley and Hicks got together and adopted Newt.

This. Alien and Aliens are the two only film in the franchise that I consider to be canon. The rest were them milking the franchise.

I also feel that Prometheus and Alien Covenant were overrated. Found them both pretty boring too.

The last scene of The last Jedi is the perfect ending for the entire Star wars saga.

Star Wars ended when Disney bought it.

Agreed.
Although I include the events of the 'prequels', the timeline for me ends with Return of the Jedi. And the emperor died at the hands of Vader.
