Slugging Third Survivor

As a PS4 player I obviously saw this strategy fairly frequently even before crossplay. Since crossplay started though..... Wow! Almost every single game I have played if it gets down to 2 survivors the killer is going to slug the 3rd survivor.

While I think there is something that needs to change in that scenario it isn't that killers do it. It's a legit strategy and I understand why they do it.

The thing that needs to change is the slugged survivor.

Why do so many slugged survivors in that situation stay in exactly the same spot? They might spin circles, but they don't actually move anywhere. The moment the other survivor heals you the killer knows since your icon is going to show you are no longer on the ground. Where do you think they are going to look first?

If you guessed the spot you got slugged you guessed correctly. That's the last spot they saw you, and for reasons I can't begin to understand most survivors never move from that spot. By not moving from the spot you are basically handing the killer a 2 for 1 special, especially a killer that has the ability to instadown.

If you move somewhere else you buy yourself some time. You might even buy yourself enough time that you can be healed completely instead of just long enough to get to your feet if the killer actually has to look for you, plus people like me aren't even going to attempt to heal you if you are going to sit in the same spot you got slugged. You're just making both survivors flashing neon advertisements to the killer if they try to help you.

Yeah, I've seen it happen a lot.

Had a Clown yesterday with the pink add-on that allows you to insta-down if you hit them with a bottle. There were two of us left. I get downed. He leaves me. My teammate comes and picks me up. He downs me again. Doesn't hook me again. So I get picked up again. Then my teammate gets downed. I pick her up. Then finally he eventually downs both of us. Match lasts way longer than it should've.

Changes may be needed to the whole mechanic. As someone that doesn't play killer I don't want to pretend I can make an objective suggestion. I just can't understand why survivors lay in one spot and don't move in that situation. It's not a strategically smart move unless I'm missing something

assuming no tencity or unbreakable it is best to full heal for your teammate to pick you up at a critical time

Slugged Survivors should be given an option to insta-die once they have bleed out for a certain amount of time (at least half the bar would be ideal).

I tend to recover and then crawl to some remote place where there's no hatch spawns so I don't accidentally show it to the killer. And if the killer loses track of me and the 4th survivor wants to pick me up, it works for that too.

Surprisingly often the killer seems to just walk around in a very small radius around me expecting the 4th survivor to suicide heal me so they can instantly down me again then chase the 4th. If a killer does this instead of actually looking for the 4th and/or the hatch, please just let me bleed out and get the potentially free hatch after they hook me with 1% bleedout bar left.

My priority is generally to recover first so it doesn't take a thousand years to get me up, and then move. Generally speaking, most of the time you get slugged the killer will have no problem tracking you down without tenacity, you just move too slowly and often are in a poor area to find a hiding spot. That said if there's a nearby spot I think would make for a dramatically better place to hide I'll absolutely move there first. But if I'm out in an open field or something, I always give recovery priority.

Teach every killer that slugs for 4K that it is not worth it by either getting the hatch (and not going for the slugged) or use perks like Urban Evasion to waste a lot of their time. You can pick up the person repeatedly with Urban and they won't see you coming or going. Then, tell them in chat, "Feel free to slug and 4K but be prepared to waste a lot of time or watch me leave through the hatch."

To me, slugging for 4K is a cowardly way of playing. It's like saying, "I don't want to let the hatch open because I can't deal with it if I 3K instead of 4K." Just hook the person or be prepared to waste your time. You coulda played a whole match during that time.

If you slug 3 survivors, automatically gain unbroken ... That's fair

Only way to really prevent most of the 3rd survivor slugging is to add a timer until the hatch opens. They want to prevent the escape.

I'll admit to being guilty of it occasionally if the last person is someone I REALLY want dead (typically for things like teabagging and flashlight clicking).

LOL. Urban Evasion is hella powerful especially in a team. I don't use to Urban around the whole map.

There are a number of uses for it . . .

    • Urbaning to downed survivor so as not to leave a trail if the killer is slugging (obv)
    • Lithing and/or otherwise gaining distance and then using Urban to lose the chase.
    • Urbaning through Tunnelhead's poop (Pyramidhead for those who don't know his true name).
    • Urbaning to be within BBQ range or near the hook.
    • With killers that have a normal terror radius, you can urban away before they even get to the gen (or whatever objective) you are on. Then they waste 2 minutes looking for you, which is just as good as a chase and no one gets hit. It's also fun to watch!

Endless reasons dude. Try it and you'll see.

you do know that walking doesn‘t leave a trail right?

In Most of the examples you mentioned, you can just walk instead of crouching and use the perkslot for something else.

I hate when people complain about this. Survivors kill themselves ALWAYS on the hook, literally every single time so the last one gets the hatch. And than they complain about why killers slug for a 4k. MHHHHH WHY DO THEY MAYBE DO THIS? Just think about it. You have no rights to complain. You guys did this. Its your fault. If you would stop kill youself every single time so the last one gets the hatch they would also not slug.

100% with you on not sacrificing yourself if the killer is sticking close

I hate when people complain about someone saying something they never said. Did you even bother to read past the first couple of sentences? I specifically said my issue wasn't with a killer slugging in that situation. I specifically said I understood the strategy. I said my problem was when the survivor just lays in the same spot and doesn't attempt to move after being slugged.

So perhaps if you want to talk about someone not having the right to complain about something it would be the person that decided to read the first paragraph of something and then condemn the person that wrote it based on an assumption of what they thought the rest of it said without ever reading it.

I was talking about people that complain about it. You didn't do it and your post was about something else yes. I just posted that because usually if you talk about slugging for a 4k you are just gonna come across some idiots that just complain, and those people are most of the time the same that just kill themselves so their teammate gets the hatch. I just said that because that's what I think about it and what I say to people that complain about it. But to be honest that was my fault because it was clearly not visible in my post. It actually looks like I didn't read it ngl.

I can understand that. No problem. Unfortunately, it's all too common on this for people to do that type of thing. My apologies.

I do, but urbaning is faster. Besides, you can't walk past a pile of junk on the junkyard map. You also can't walk right under the killer's nose. Urban lets you do that. I frequently hear "How did they not see you?" when in SWF. I'm saving my team daily while you question the perk. Go on with your bad self.

Just give more points (pip- and bloodpoint-wise) for a 3k and less killers will slug for the 4k.

There are some who just want the 4k, yes, but the majority cares more about the points and finds slugging boring, too.

Slugging for the 4k is just boring, but it's also a symptom of a bigger issue: Hatch doesn't reward killers if survivors are forced to use it.

Pretty much everyone acknowledges that 3k+hatch is a win, because it's the killer killing 3 people and losing a coin toss. So why not just give a "Hatch Escape" notification that counts the same as a hook+kill AND an escape?

Killers underestimate the power of hope and its effect on survivors.

If you kill the 3rd survivor, then the last one is basically guaranteed to start RUNNING to find the hatch. They leave scratch marks. They make noise. They panic. When people panic, they make mistakes.

Survivors (or at least console players from my experience) are particularly cautious during this hatch hunt, and are unlikely to do much if they catch a whiff of the killer. Know this and travel with confidence. Either you will find the hatch and force gates, or the survivor gets lucky and escapes.

Heed my words and learn, fellow killers. Hope is the most powerful element within fear, and without it only dread remains. When there is dread, there is no fun. Give survivors hope, then snatch it away when they reach out for it.

A 3K with Hatch Escape should give the same points like a 4K. Simple and would solve 99% of "slugging for the 4K".

    @Topic:

"Why do so many slugged survivors in that situation stay in exactly the same spot? "

The game is usually over once only 2 Survivors are alive. Depending how the game goes, its over when 1 Survivor is dead (depending how early this is happening, this is why Moris are insanely OP) because of the Snowballing which can happen in DBD.

But with 2 Survivors, it is almost impossible to get all Gens done, as long as the last Gen is not almost finished. So it does not really matter if I get picked up again or not. And, while I indeed recover if the other Survivor wants to get me, I prefer to be found if the game is over. I dont really like to crawl away so that the Killer cannot find me and I will bleed out for a few minutes, I rather get hooked and go to the next game.

I'd really like to see a way to accelerate your bleedout while you're downed for situations like this. I've been in situations where the survivor just hides and the killer just patrols my downed body for 4 minutes which isn't fun for anyone and I just want to move onto the next match.

They could also reward blood points for hooking based on how full the survivor's bleedout is to disincentivize this behavior, with sub 1 minute on the bleedout timer rewarding almost nothing.

Boring and a waste of time. If I’m the survivor on the floor for 4+ minutes depending on the other survivor, I will dc. Absolutely would prefer a 5 minute ban over sitting on the floor for the same amount of time
