Will the new graphics update kill this game on console?
We were promised console optimization over a year ago, but it seems the only thing that came of it was a graphical downgrade so as to improve performance. Lately I've been struggling with some frame rate issues on PS4, especially when playing killer, and can't help but consider that when patch 4.2.0 goes live it will become nearly impossible to play.

Hope devs don't forget to optimize the game before the patch is out. If they don't, it will be a disaster and the game would die.

And the promised PS4 Pro and Xbox One X enhanced patches two years ago. Nothing yet.
13 -
I don't disagree. What I am hoping is that the optimization comes out with the graphical update (which looks fantastic btw). If it doesn't, it will be difficult to play Killer.

We were promised console optimization my fear is that they are waiting for the next gen consoles.
if that is the plan i think many in the console community will be extremely pissed and BHVR can expect a backlash.

New consoles out in a couple months 🤷♂️

While true, not everyone can afford one in a couple of months. I play on PC, but everyone else I can now play with are on PS4 or Xbox. Two of them are having to move to a new house within the next few months due to the owner of where they live selling it (and that is not a small expense), and the other works but has kids, a mortgage, et cetera and can't just drop hundreds for a new-gen console at release. Especially with kids and family to all buy for for Xmas in a few months.
They need to optimize the current consoles, not just rely on everyone affording the new generation at their launch.

Totally agree with this. I've got no plans to go forking out over £500 for a brand new console when my PS4 works perfectly fine as is. If DbD wait until the next-gen console to actually fix the FPS, I certainly won't be buying DbD there if I did upgrade. It'd feel like a complete slap to the face to those of us who supported the game on current gen

Exactly. Not to mention, there's a little thing called a Pandemic going on and, at least here in the U.S., it's a total train wreck with a lot of people still out of work and unable to find new employement. Which means a lack of disposable income for the price of these new generation consoles.
4 -
I agree with you guys that next-gen isn't the answer. I hope the optimization comes with C17 but at the very least I expect the optimization patch to coincide with the release of the next-gen versions of the game in November. I really wish they would outline the next-gen and current-gen plans for 2020 already.

*cries in switch*

This might be a stupid question, but I have a question around the next gen consoles. Would you lose all dbd progress/cosmetics on Xbox and have to repurchase the game or would everything transfer over if you purchased the game digitally?
0 -
Because it isn't about whether the game is a good title for the platform, it's all about the money. I mean, they put this game on the Switch for crying out loud. 😂
4 -
This. For the love of the Entity's bunions this!!
3 -
Nothing will transfer over because there is nothing to transfer. Your data is stored on DBD servers and linked to your platform account. So yes everything would be there waiting for you on XSX, assuming you use the same XBL account. As far as purchasing, they haven't said if they will offer a free upgrade to next-gen or you have to buy. Hopefully a next-gen optimized and enhanced version awaits us on day one of new consoles but at the very least the current game will be BC on both next-gen consoles. And cross-play will always work within the same family of consoles. So you can play with your XB1 friends while playing on XSX.

Ps4 Pro can't even run the digital store without crashing. Let's be real here. All that extra memory and bandwidth was for anti-piracy and not making games look better.
Who keeps greenlighting this #########? Ps5 is going to try to run games 8k and will run like ######### just like pro tries to run 4k and runs like #########, and ps3 tried 1080p and ran like #########.
I don't even know what Xboxes deal will probably be but if it's anything like the 360, it'll run for a week then ######### DIE. Then after a 3 week wait in its coffin, I get it back another week then it died again. What a trash console that was. I heard they fixed the problem by removing the red LEDs and unprogramming error codes from showing up. Real safe when people were resoldering the motherboard using a blanket.

Someone get this consoler a drink or three! Y'all got it worse than even us on Xbox. We still love you and all our Switch bretheren!!
5 -
Yeah tbh I would be happy with 4K 60fps HDR games, not interested in 8K 30fps games. Some games have announced 120 support but haven't revealed the resolution yet. Some speculate 120 will run at 1080p. And the PS4 Pro OS and menu is still laggy. I hope PS5 has a crispy OS.
1 -
Thanks man I appreciate it
3 -
Us consolers have to stick together, especially now
2 -
The switch community isn't that big, I'm sure that they will fix the problem in the more powerful consoles... But what are we supposed to do lol, guess I'll have to buy a new pc
0 -
From what I read it goes something like Switch, Mobile, and then Xbox. Way ahead in numbers is PS4, and then PC is the largest chunk. I don't believe the three others besides PC together add up to PS4, but I'm not entirely sure.
I also do not think the devs have put out these numbers directly to anyone, but I'd like to know, especially after Crossplay came out...
3 -
Just waiting for a dev to come here and say "we are looking into this" and four years later they still don't do anything about it.
10 -
I'm surprised they haven't deleted the optimization update they published back in March 2019 due to the frequent complaints on the forums about poor performance on consoles as well as PC.
4 -
This. I don't plan on buying a PS5 anytime soon either. Should old gen consoles stop receiving support, you can expect a significant part of the player base to abandon the game. Also, queue times will pretty much revert back to what they were before crossplay was implemented (upwards of 5 minutes for Survivor).

No the response is Soon TM

Who knows, i saw someone in the foruns saying that the new badham and yamaoka were running better than Lerys.
0 -
That's true i saw those too. I also saw people who have graphics cards that cost more than my PS4 pro stating that frames dropped 25 -30 when gens popped or near Gens finished or when pallets broke or walls broke. 🤞 but after all these years I no longer have faith in BHVR to push out a quality product.
2 -
Hmm. I dunno about you, but EVERYTHING runs better than that map for me, so I can't say for sure that's good news. In particular, Hawkins, Ormond and new Lery's turn my PS4 into a potato when I play killer.
2 -
That was the catch guys they said "console optimization" they just didn't specify which console would get it. Silly Behavior 🙊. PS5/XBoxSeriex 60 FPS confirmed.
5 -
BHVR probably couldn't give less of a ######### about current gen console optimization because in their eyes, they are about to become obsolete because the new ones are right around the corner. Making a patch for current gen wouldn't make sense financially, because why roll out a patch, that would cost them a lot of time and money, dedicated to 7 year old hardware?
1 -
The fact is they broke their promise, they promised optimization for low end PCs and current gen consoles back in March 2019 and we are still waiting for any sort of an update.
2 -
I would be very surpised if either a mod or dev stops by here. 17 pages of comments on this discussion and no update: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/179630/bhvr-can-we-acknowledge-fps-on-console-is-awful-since-4-1-0#latest
3 -
I'm playing on a Laptop and get 30 FPS Ingame, it drops when Gens get done because of the new sparks... So I would only imagine that your Ps4 will MELT with the update.
3 -
Lots of people seem to be talking about this. I play on a regular Xbox and get next to no low FPS so I'm fine, which kind of confuses me on why other people are getting it.
0 -
I would very much like to see high quality gameplay of your Xbox playing this game at a respectable FPS. You sure you don't just have a very high tolerance for poor performance? I've universally heard bad things about console performance, no matter the system.
2 -
No, I usually just get good framerates when I play DBD. IDK why though.
0 -
still waiting for a dev to come here and say "we are looking into to this" or something, when they are actually saying "Give it 5 more years or we can just downgrade the graphics even more on console" lmao
3 -
Look at the thread that has about 16 pages about FPS, they said they're going to share that thread with the team. It could be just to get us to stop talking about it, but i doubt that. Judging how long it took to get a response there I doubt this'll get an official response but I hope i'm proven wrong.
I too am very concerned with the FPS on the new maps.
2 -
Even streamers with high-end pc's experienced frame drops with the PTB (when gens get done, for example). So it looks like there will be big problems for console with the next update.
It doesn't have to mean the death of DbD on console yet, but we might not be many patches away from it.
2 -
I hope so too. I also hope cross-progression comes to PlayStation 4 and Xbox so I can make the switch to PC as a last resort.
0 -
Come on devs, I know one of you are looking at this thread, come on, you know you want to.
2 -
Xbox One X player here.
Game runs fine. Only time I notice a dip in frames is when a status effect is applied (sloppy butcher I'm looking at you).
Honestly I think the new graphical update will be good clear across the board. The devs aren't seeking 4k. They're just bringing the game to a 2020 level terms of fidelity with cleaner textures and better lighting.
1 -
They CAN optimize console, I remember that after the EGC update went live the FPS received a major upgrade, I was actually able to play nurse decently for once after the update went live.
1 -
Yeah they did manage to improve performance a few chapters ago but then since 4.1.0 it's taken a massive dive.
1 -
Oh, don't get me wrong. It plays fine 90% of the time. I even play on a gaming monitor. A cheap one, but still better than regular tvs.
But it's always an issue. They were supposed to have this figured out by now in 15 years of gaming that performance > graphics.
0 -
I think that they will stop supporting older gen consoles. The update may come only in the newer ones. And considering that the switch is still going strong...I don't know man I really don't know whate the ######### are we supposed to do
1 -
I recommend The Long Dark. Excellent game. Cause i also think our time playing DBD is almost gone...
1 -
No one is getting optimization. Its never happening. Thats another reason why PC and console are locked together in crossplay. Probably so they can use it as an excuse to never improve it too much so REAL optmization will never happen. We will never get anything the PS4 and Xbox One originals can't handle. They're not going to lower their playerbase. If we get optimization the OG consoles can't happen those players would just stop.
0 -
Oh I play on a monitor myself. I actually refuse to play on a TV. Big screen tvs are over stimulating when playing competitive games. Monitors and desk are so much more comfortable.
Anyway. Im with you. I prefer performance over graphics. My game runs smooth 99% of the time. My only issues are frames drops during status effect changes and server side lag (why am I getting russian user names killers when I live in Ohio??)
0 -
Wait I did not understand what you said at the end. You said that they won't optimize the player for OG consoles but update will still come? Sorrh I'm confused
