Behavior: You did a pretty good job so far with the MMR system

I know the release of MMR has been controversial and that it hasn't been perfect for everybody, but for me personally I am not only getting better queue times but also playing against survivors and killers whose ranks and skill levels are more likely to actually match mine. Before MMR I would constantly go against red rank survivors even when I was in green and purple ranks, now it looks like people are playing against players at their skill level. Since I don't think you get positive feedback nearly as much as negative feedback, I just wanted to say good job so far.

Hate to break it to you, but MMR was turned off around the 12th or 13th. They even had an in-game news alert about it. For over a week now, since crossplay launched, we've been back to the previous rank-as-matchmaker that we've always had.

No word on when MMR will make a return, as it wasn't working right and they turned it off to fix it.

So, you aren't getting MMR matches.

  • Huh. I guess I've just gotten lucky lol. I think MMR will benefit most players though, it's only the red ranks that will suffer.

Probably just luck. My games have either been "stomp or stomped." There really hasn't been an in-between.

It's the same issue I suffered for too long in Overwatch Quick Play, and that mode does use a hidden MMR system. So, I'm on the fence about how good BHVR can ultimately make their system. Especially when Blizzard has a lot more resources and experience, and a majority of their matches are still stomp or be stomped.

  • How come they disabled killer switching in lobbies since MMR has been canned? I thought the whole point of disabling killer switching in lobbies was for MMR. That's the main reason why I thought my matches were MMR matches.

Peanits answered that in a post, but when I last searched for it for another thread two days ago it was already on page 18 of the forums. So, forgive me for not repeating that search, here.

Anyway, it's because MMR is coming back as soon as they fix it and in the meantime they are continuing to gather individual Killer information. That's the main reason. The other reason is because the way it was coded, he said, removing it would require a change in code and a patch to the client. And since MMR is coming back, they don't see any sense in going through all that work to remove it only to put it back later.

It would if it worked. Problem is, it didn't. Red ranks on either side were almost always being put up against brand new players. It was even tested, and 7/10 games pitted red rank full swf teams against level 15-20 killers. If you were a new survivor, you got put up against a red rank killer. It did the exact opposite of what it was supposed to do, and shouldn't be hard to default to "if new player, match with newer players."

It would if it worked. The issue is that the new system was deliberately pairing brand new players on either side with red ranks on the opposite side. When tested, a full red-rank (level 1) swf team was put against new killer 7/10 times. I understand that some systems get iffy during implementation, but at the very least, it should default to "new players get matched with new players."

Not to sound like I'm badmouthing the developers, because it's not my intention, but it seems like the developers just kind of made a game, but don't quite know how to optimize it. As I've said before, maybe it's the whole profits first approach, but when it comes to many of the bugs that have been present since the game's launch, it seems like they just kind of decided they have no intention of ever addressing them. They suck, but they aren't considered "game-breaking" enough to warrant their attention, especially at the risk of potentially destroying anything else. I'm not entirely sure what is going on, but yeah, it's definitely been disabled because of how terrible it turned out to be. I haven't heard any updates on it either, so it may have been a bad enough burn to the devs that they just flat-out dropped it.
