So - Puppers was hacked on stream and given an extended DC penalty today.

What are the chances that when you disable them this time, you actually fix them before re-enabling them? Stop disabling them just to re-enable them hoping the hackers forgot. You're being pretty naive if you think hackers have anything better to do than be dicks. It's only going to be 100x worse next time Tru3 streams, and you know it.

Seriously, just give us bots and I’d have no issues without a DC penalty

These are some really childish hackers (unless they’re getting paid). I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re the type of player to DC on first down or if they’re on a map they don’t like.

Penalties should never exceed one hour. If you're disconnecting at too high of a rate, you should be in a bad sports lobby for a while. Give everyone not in an SWF with the person who disconnects a 10k BP Bonus.

Eitherway... this is one of those games where people shouldn't expect a whole lot from a team they randomly joined. If one isn't rolling as a 4-stack SWF. Expect failure. and the bad team mate.

As long as I've gamed online, I don't expect much from other players. If someone is mad that another person on their team rages and leaves a match. and it wasn't their own 4-man group. I'd just get over it and play it out.

    You can’t do that

This person doing it is deliberately targeting big streamers of the game.

what happens if their isn’t a dev online when they get banned, they have to stream something else, they lose revenue plus dbd loses exposure, neither side will let that happen

and on the other side of the fence if you allow streamers to get a bypass because they are a streamer, what’s that say to the rest of the community if they get hacked and don’t get a bypass

    its a lose lose situation.

expect dc penalties to be removed again.

    Ah #########..here we go again

25+ mins is nothing. Tru3 had a 3 day ban.

  • ohheyitsbobcat
    ohheyitsbobcat Member Posts: 1,741

So they'll have to stream something else for a bit until they get a bypass. There are a ton of people that stream this game so I'd hardly say they're losing exposure just because some of the bigger ones can't stream it for a bit, if anything there will be more of an outcry which might get it even more exposure.

There's also only so many big streamers they can target before they all have a bypass and if they keep disabling it then the hackers will keep messing with it when it's re-enabled. Better to just keep it on then deal with this back and forth nonsense.

If they hold their ground the hackers will have to find something else to to keep themselves entertained. Frankly, I think it's the better call to not give in and just help whoever gets effected.

Normally I would be doubtful, but there's a few things that make me believe someone has it out for this game. Like that time someone paid for a reddit advertisement saying DbD will never be balanced.

Then the hackers will start hacking regular accounts, so what then give them bypasses as well? Where does it end?

And if l rage quit 15 times and get a 24hr ban then turn around to the devs and say “l was hacked” how do they know l am truthful or not?

The only reason they know legit hacking because it’s streamers getting hacked.

and if l get a bypass what stops me from rage quitting as much as l want from then on.

They need to make it fullproof not just bandaid their way through it.

Just implement bots for christ's sake and do away with the penalty if you can't figure out!

  • ohheyitsbobcat
    ohheyitsbobcat Member Posts: 1,741

I believe they require the account name and for the person to be in a game in order to do it don't they? It's why so many streamers blank out the names so they have a harder time getting to them. I don't know if this hack works the same way but it's how they were getting to accounts in the past so I find it unlikely they'd even be able to get to normal accounts unless they themselves were in the games which would give them away.

Also, the more times they do this the bigger the chance they'll mess up and get caught as well. If it was just that easy to dc ban people then they'd just ban everyone at once for a big show.

They want to have fun and mess with people and hacking some rando isn't going to do crap for them. It's boring and accomplishes nothing compared to a big target.

I don't really know how BHVR keeps track of the bans but I imagine they could tell if someone had been hacked simply because it would be an instant long ban and would skip over the 5 minute ones. Unless the hackers are being very thorough and setting up realistic style bans it seems like you could tell just based on timeframe.

This is all just speculation of course, I don't know how they run their system or how they keep track of everything or how the hackers are doing what they're doing. Maybe the system really is that easy to breach or maybe these hackers are actually pros who've been hired by some other rando to spite the game. Who knows?

Turn them off and leave them off. They haven't improved the experience. People just die on first hook instead.

  • Pawcelot

How can BHVR keep failing the same thing over and over again? They need to invest money in hiring someone to fix things for them, as turning it off and on again clearly isn't working.

They need to invest money in hiring someone to fix things for them

Could also just turn off the penalties and invest the money into more support staff and then handle people who disconnect a lot manually with in-game reports.

That has the side effect of them not needing to take over a month to handle tickets that were made to include additional evidence.

Agreed. Between bugs and hackers, DC penalties will often punish players who didn't do anything wrong.

I have a feeling Tru3 is going to be pissed when he goes to work today.

I don't even see that to be the problem.

What i don't understand is how they are able to hack the DC penalty system in the first place and why such a thing is so vulnerable to hacking, since this is the only game that i have ever seen someone hack a penalty system before, and have it be targeted at certain players as well. Only further proof that these Devs are terrible at coding.

How this can even be a thing is beyond me.

Maybe they expected noed on said killers and didn't want the drag of searching for totems. /S

Honestly no idea what brings people to DC except real life problems and exploitable or game breaking bugs/glitches.

if all of his games freezes, i would say its more likly his personal pc is hacked rather than the servers, don´t you think?

I still rather take the risk of being punished for doing nothing wrong over having someone ruining my game every second game.

    Otherwise, karma matchmaking.

  • burt0r
    burt0r Member Posts: 4,160

No, I know these dumb reasons but I don't get/share the mentality behind those since I feel a sense of responsibility towards other people I play with.

Just like when you play with people that you know personally and don't want to be a jerk to them.

I have a friend in league of legends and sorry but she belongs in bronze or wood elo and is advice resistant. But I still play with them even if their gameplay makes me want to quit.

So simply treat most randoms like you know them and endure their stupidity, except they troll or exploit something.

Any reasonable person would assume that they'd try to fix it during the time they removed the penalty. It's just sad at this point.

  • SloppyKnockout
    SloppyKnockout Member Posts: 1,505

You could DC 10 times - you'd never get a 25 minute penalty. Because it doesn't exist. Just like with tru3ta1ent, when he got his 3 day DC penalty when he never DC'd from a game.

  • johnmwarner

While this was different, you aren’t wrong he does DC quite a bit for someone supposed to be an ambassador of the game. This game is “unfun,” I’m DCing... and then people wonder why the average player does it

  • HectorBrando
    HectorBrando Member Posts: 3,167

What I understand from his tweet is the hackers were freezing the games he joined so he had to Disconect hence the game giving him a penalty, if its the case its a whole different problem than hacking the system and giving a 72 hour penalty like they did to True.

It is even for casual players no fun to have in every game dcs. An ideal match has no dcs at all.

A dc penalty helps to achieve this goal on two ways:

-First it gives potential dc people a reason to think about if they really should do it.

-Second it makes it easier for people that not dc to find a match, because the dcing people enjoy their bantimes while the not dcing people can faster join matches.

That is in my eyes a win-win situation.

Please don't use this streamers bad exp to force turning penalties off again. I was there when it happend to Tru3 and i get it, it's very anoying, especially when it's your job. But i wouldn't be suprised if these pseudo-hackers are exactly aiming for this, getting rid of penalties again.

For me and other solo survs and killers, penatlies were the best thing they added. And i'm pretty sure the bigger streamers (these with brain) would agree, that penalties are very important to have normal games.

  • johnmwarner
    johnmwarner Member Posts: 3,793

Yeah just because it’s casual doesn’t mean you should DC whenever you want. Basically every online game has some sort of penalty, look at World of Warcraft, it’s only competitive in online tournaments but “regular play,” has a DC penalty when you leave your group.

I have now a 6h penalty by DC on a tunneling/camping wraith on my last hook who says best ? XD
