I played Silent hill 2 and 3

So I finally got my hands on both the 2nd and 3rd games for my 360 to see if this really was the real deal, and I'll say I'm not disappointed this was a very great series, and I'm glad I was able to experience it. The story was good, and it was decently paced. But there is some negatives I have about the game. I played it to also to get scared, and I hate to say it but I didn't find Silent Hill scary. Now there were moments I was scared with Pyramid head but when I faced the many bosses some of them for some reason found comical. Eddie Dombrowski is one, the voice actor for the character I'm sorry but that was hilarious to hear him, I laughed and I couldn't take the character seriously.

And that's for many monsters I didn't find them scary at all but here's why, I had a weapon, something to defend myself. I didn't feel helpless, that in my opinion is what I find terrifying in a horror game, the fact that you have nothing to defend yourself with and nothing to stop the monster or whatever it is your faceing. Now there were occasions where I couldn't do anything but run but like the haunted house and Pyramid Heads first fight, but thats it at times. Now I'm not saying it wasn't creepy at times or that it wasn't good, SIlent hill is a great series I really like it however I just am not a s scared of it as I do feel for other horror games. But then again this is an old game and this was terrifying at the time but now a days we've seen just about everything. Again these are just my opinions and I am sorry if you felt a bit upset by this, but this is just what I thought of Silent hill.

@MandyTalk @Inji Could you please move this into the off topic section I accidently made into the general discussions

Try 4. It's my favorite in the series. ☺

Same lol. i never found the series scary ☺️

Everything is too busy being "weird" and unnaturally that it never really really leaves much room to the imagination to fill in the horror of it. plus the character behave or act too stiff or robotic pretending to be human that you can never stay immersed before bursting out laughing at how bad everyone sounds or behaves.

I'm a big fan of New England, Stephen King esq settings in fiction but the game didn't cut it for me.

One of the things that i can applaud the game on is their great use of sound design and music. The music makes me feel a whole spectrum of feelings, it can meticulously illicit feelings of anxiety, dread, conform, happiness and surrealism. And its probably one of the best things that they could do by managing to get the original composers work on the dbd theme and chase music.

I'll give it a go and see what I think of it.

Yeah and its just it sorta meh to me but I do see why we got a chapter off of Silent hill though, but apart of me feels like we should've gotten a chapter from a game that we all know about and is a bit more modern

Did you get the HD collection? Cause it massively messes with the effects and almost tanked the atmosphere for me.

The one released for the 360 was the HD collection, unless you played the OG with backwards compatibility, which came with its own host of downgrades.

I think the series is more about a sense of ever-growing horror and dread, rather than a scary game.

For me, no other series has met the standard this series has set for horror. Whilst games like "The Cat Lady" and "Outlast" have been brilliant samples of horror, "Silent Hill" for me has never been beaten in terms of horror.

However, everyone has different tastes, and what someone may consider scary, I'd consider laughable and vice versa. Certainly, thank you and well done for being honest about the game. Admittedly, Eddie was comical to me too, especially the bit where James completely misjudged the situation, resulting in the fight!

Horror is always subjective. My favourite Silent Hill has always been "Silent Hill: The Room". But certainly, if you don't like the idea of fighting back, avoid "Homecoming" at all cost!!! Although, in fairness, the bosses are so well designed!

I'm okay with that I personally think Outlast is scarier than Silent Hill for the sense of helplessness is what makes me feel unsafe. And there is another game I find scarier than Silent Hill but I think saying it particularly nowadays within the community would be deemed ill advice but I get what your saying

Oh no, you can't talk about a game scarier than Silent Hill and not say it! That's teasing! I'm sure that we'll understand when you say it ... so long as it's not "The Sims"!

Oh no its not The Sims its... Fnaf( Yeah... I'm expecting some hate)., I'm not talking about the newer stuff but the older like original, 1 through 4 those I find slightly scarier, for when you play through the game I just find the ambience and the silence disturbing, and it makes you feel alone, vulnerable, helpless I feel uncomfortable playing it at times. When you let your guard down your basically dead, I know fnaf is portrayed as a kids game to many but in my opinion its not, its like for teens really. I didn't want to say it because I know how much people in the community hates fnaf but I like it, for this is what got me into the horror genre, plus comparing it to a game like Silent hill makes me feel like I'm sounding childish, again I'm sorry but I just wasn't as terrified while playing silent hill then I was playing fnaf, I hope you can understand.

No need to apologise! Everyone has different fear levels. Like, with me, FNAF isn't scary, but I admit when it first came out I did like the camera idea as that whole voyeuristic approach can be very unsettling. So I understand why people could get scared.

Fear also comes down to different perspectives and also experiences. I have a lot of experience with bad mental health, which is why Silent Hill affects me (hallucinations, suicide, etc.). Your fear may be the advance in technology, hence animatronics.

Whichever, never feel guilty for what scares you. Heck, jewelry scares me for goodness sake! :))

It's been so long since I've played Silent Hill, I keep meaning to go back and play it but with work and life, I seem to already have a ton of games that I own that I've not had chance to play yet.

I'm really glad you enjoyed the games, they were one of my favourites!

Okay thank you man I just thought people would hate on me for comparing a game like SIlent hill to Fnaf, it just sounded balzy of me to say something like that but I just thought huge silent hill fans would hate on me greatly for saying I thought Fnaf was slightly scarier.

I'll see if I can find it. If not I'll watch gameplay footage

Thank you and yeah there is a bunch of games I feel like I have to replay due to the fact Its been a long while since I played them

I think if you look at it in the sense of foreboding horror and psychological themes you'd be pretty surprised what's happening in silent hill. Take the character Angela Orosco for example, she seems to be a lot older than her mindset. It's because of those real world events that took place in her life she comes off as a child but she is in fact an adult and the monster's there that was manifested by James and Angela have deeper meanings. I brought the game when I was a kid so obviously I didn't understand what the heck what was going on but now things like the abstract daddy gives me chills knowing what he really is, but it's these subtleties that make the franchise and those games so great ,while the design may be off putting to some at first the representation of the monster is what really drives it for me,but in all honesty I believe it's the greatest horror franchise to ever exist but everyone likes different things and nothings wrong with that just try it from a different perspective don't compare it to what we have now, when you do embark on the silent hill journey.

I actually did play it through a different perspective of it, and I found the series more disturbing when I first played it. I'm just more used to the obvious sort of things like the helplessness of terror, it took me a while to actually delve into the minds of some of these characters and I won't deny they are quite unsettling. So my perspective has changed and now I believe Silent Hill is a bit better then what originally thought of it as when I first played it. But I still firmly feel like the unnerving terror your gonna die and you can't do anything about it is a lot scarier to me, however I am thankful you understand, thank you.

Nice I'm glad you were able to find some grounding in there, personally while, I don't like the aspect of not being able to defend yourself, Outlast is freaking terrifying no doubt about it. Resident Evil 1 & 3 are very scary but not in the psychological sense just out right terror even with a gun Especially original resident evil 3 og because Nemesis was so unscripted he'd just pop up on you but anyway take care be safe
