DBD isn't scary for anyone.
I'm convinced that dbd isn't scary, not because "once you put enough hours into something it stops being scary" but because all my friends who just recently started playing the game got more frustrated with it than anything.
Examples-
Friend 1- Enjoys the game but thinks its unbalanced and is waiting for a good update
Friend 2- Wants to play with friends but hates the game cause it is just simply not fun to play
Friend 3- Doesn't care for game that much but enjoys making people mad and being toxic
Friend 4- Legitimately likes the game and has few negative opinions on the game
I asked all these friends if they found the game scary at all and they all disagreed, Friend 1 said Myers tier 1 is scary, and we all agreed that hag jump scares can be scary but thats about it. Looping looks silly and really takes away the intimidation of the killer too.
I think dbd is missing any horror elements besides character design. Do you guys still find the game scary, what big changes could they do to make the game actually scary?
(This is not a balance thread, my point is what can make the game more scary not balanced)

I don't, but that's because I've torn the game apart and all I see now is hitboxes, PoV, routes, tiles etc. My gameplay is very mechanical.
There's different types of horror though. Gore/body horror? I think playing on a map made of flesh might scare me. Entity juices and all that.
Shock horror? Dread? Eh. I dread Trapper traps and Hag catches you off guard if you hit a trap before you know who the killer is.
Midwich is nice for scares. The crying girl in one of the rooms is pretty atmosphere setting. Doesn't detract from the game and just has a lot of soul to it.
I think horror needs to come from the map itself. What if after you repaired a generator to a certain percent a painting on the wall fell down? What if things broke in game? I know this game can do it. The cow tree already does it. Cow go wiggle wiggle wiggle.
wiggle wiggle. much scare.

Multiplayer horror is hard to pull off because players don't have to facilitate fear. They can be silly. I used to play the Silent Hill series all the time, and while I adore them and the atmosphere they create, I never really found them scary. Just tense. Horror is like comedy, it's subjective. What one person finds scary, another may find boring or comical.

Its hard for horror and fear ro be an element in a game.with mechanics such as looping in it. When you can play ring around the rosie with the killer, or you stand at a pallet and the killer has to be careful cus you might smack them with a wooden pallet. It detracts from horror.

My number one goal in games, at least to start is to scare people. I thus like to run 'surprise' killers, like Hag and Spirit (trying to learn Freddy and Nurse...not going well on the latter :) ).
I'm pretty sure I'm successful sometimes, if reactions are anything to go by.
Thing is that - yeah. As @Heartbound put it, I'm guessing that more experienced players are just seeing mechanics and numbers at a certain point and will be difficult to scare.
