Why Do You Play DbD?

For me I mostly play it because all other asymetrical games are either very unfriendly to new players, and I really like the progression system that DbD has.

Because I like the game. I like that it's an assymetrical slasher. I like the gameplay, particularly the chases. I DONT like that I bought it thinking that the wily survivor would be the difficult and rewarding side, but after the initial shock of ranking up wore off I adapted.

Plus, I've sunk a lot of moneys into this game.

If F13 still had developer support and a community I would be playing that. That is why I play DBD still, only one in the market with a decent community of players.

At the moment I'm mostly playing just to get to tier 70 in this rift, to be honest.

I've been put off dbd a little lately and am enjoying other games more. But I'm finding myself playing just because time is running out, but goodness. Some challenges just take ages for some reason. One challenge to blind killers a few times and all of sudden I'm playing against a nurse, spirit, hag, blight and am finding flashing killers already inconsistent since the flashlight changes.

At the moment I have the motivation to play in order to collect all the rift cosmetics, but if the Devs ever decide to release rift skins, even in the shop, I'll lose that motivation to see rifts through. Already annoying enough that they've released past event cosmetics, code cosmetics and won't return my legacy.

I play a solo survivor and there are some games, not many, maybe one is every twenty or thirty, where the killer is really good. Playing fair and given us a chance. My team mates are very decent too. From what I see no one is doing crap like teabagging or taunting. The game becomes a performance between two sides, and it doesn't matter who wins in the end. The whole event is just brilliant fun, tense and terrifying at times, like the end of a really good horror. Those moments, those games are the reason I play so much. Me and three other strangers working in tune against a very talented competitor.

I'm a horror movie fan so I dig the theme, and the game is also interesting strategically being an asymmetrical 4 vs 1 game with a ton of variety of killers and maps and gear. It's one of the rare multiplayer competitive games that I enjoy playing because it's specifically designed so that the killers are a fun solo experience. Also the game isn't massively reliant on pure twitchy reflexes like most shooters, it's more about timing and pacing and situational awareness which is great. (The few characters that do require precision reflexes like Nurse and Deathslinger and Huntress are the ones I'm worst with.) And finally it has a fairly long learning curve, I'm still not all that great at knowing the particular ins and outs of the optimal routes of specific tiles or recognizing exactly which type of ruin a tile is from a distance for instance, so the game has a fair amount of replayability simply by virtue of taking a long time to master.
