Competitive / Fun

Should there be a couple separate gaming styles? One where you have super good survivor's vs good killer? Okay vs okay players? I play as killer 90% of the time. Most of those games the survivors gang rush gens and over in under 5 min. The other games the survivors want to have fun, be chased, and make it last at least 10 min or more. Competitive vs play? Speed run vs slow pokes. I prefer slow poke fun vs speed fun any day.

There is no reason competitive and fun are mutually exclusive.

I think that's more a matchmaking issue, which BHVR are having a tricky time sorting out.

There might be a flaw with separate modes such as that, being that it still won't necessarily stop toxic killers/ survivors from participating. Some people are of that frame of mind, they'll do it just to ruin someone's day.

They could do a mode with higher rewards for non-communicative play and randomized perks, add-ons and offerings. Alternatively, get 4 friends to play with who can set up a private match.

Currently, that's the best way I can see presently.

Solo and Team (SWF) should be separated in ques. But aside from that, there is nothing unfun about a competitive game.

"Competitive" and "fun" are not opposites. "Fun" is inherently subjective. With that said, even if you were to split the queue with ranked and unranked modes, there's nothing to stop people who are competitive - but not good enough to play ranked - from being hyper-competitive in unranked.

IMO, the best way to solve this is for people who are not playing to win to stop caring if they lose.

I've also had this thought -- that matching people based on skill level and having better distinction in skill level would help, but maybe matching people based on their general attitude to the game and how sweaty they want to be would help even more.

Unfortunately, I could never come up with an idea for how to do that since, if it's based on self-selection, sweaty people can just lie and pretend to be chill. If the software's supposed to determine who's chill and who's not... I can't think of a way for it to do that.

But, if someone else can figure out how to separate chill from sweaty, I'd be all for it.

In a horror game competitive doesn't come to mind, so when dbd is introduced as a competitive game it tilts some heads. I wish dbd was focused on more casual play and adding systems and mechanics that are more fun to use rather than "useful" or "skillful"
