I just watched some old DbD videos and found this video from my favorite youtuber when i started playing DbD: https://youtu.be/AHDE69Wgj_w?t=1222
They were playing with 9 survivors and 10 gens was this a gamemode back then? Or was it just a bug?

No this was not a game mode. There was a bug back in the day that people could join others while the trail was active. This was been fixed since then.
