How the ######### do you Wraith?! Surprise hits seem impossible!
Wraith is one of the few killers I rarely bother with, and I’m TRYING to give him some love finally, but I cannot see the point of choosing him over Ghostface!
I just cannot land surprise hits on survivors. Which means committing to a chase on a missed surprise hit is going to take a very long time, and we all know that long chases lose the game
- I approach gens from an angle to not trigger Spine Chill.
- I approach via LoS blockers.
- I think about where they’re repairing by taking note of where vaults and pallets are so that I can be ready to cut them off at where they’re predictably going to run.
But absolutely none of that matters. At all. By the time I go to strike after uncloaking, those survivors have reached the safety of a pallet or vault.
So what exactly is Wraith meant to do?
Without surprise hits, without initiating chases on already injured survivors, how the F is he meant to cope against these sorts of survivors?! Gens are repaired too fast to commit to chases against un-injured survivors. Or I can and maybe get 1 hook after 3 gens pop, and maybe one more hook after the remaining gen pops.
Like, how do you Wraith?!

Bodyblock the pallet. Stand where the pallet is and ring your bell and hit them.
Alternatively just stand on top of them and ring your bell on their head and then smack them.
You're mindgaming yourself.

according to the game any hit achieved within like 5 hours after uncloaking (as long as its the first attack you lunge after uncloaking) counts as a "surprise" hit...
but in general, try to bodyblock pallets / windows when you approach them. that way they eigther run into you getting hit or need to look for another opportunity to avoid you. and your speedboost allows you to catch up should they run away.
the speedboost can also be used for loops, though thats a lot tougher to do.
wraith is also more of a "hit and run" character.
hit them and leave. now they are injured and need to heal - Nurses Calling is amazing for that, as you can then ambush them from somewhere and get an easy hit. if they dont heal, they are injured on gens, which once again lets you get an easy hit in (even easier than with nurses, as there wont be someone to bodyblock).
you dont need to catch them with the speedboost you get from uncloaking, that just helps you to catch up - only attack when you are sure you can hit them. if the chase gets too long, cloak and go for someone else.
if you suspect some of them having spinechill, try looking away from where you are going. that way it wont trigger and you might actually surprise them.
he is not a good character though, so you will find yourself having a harder time than with other killers.

I know he’s “hit and run”. It’s the “hit” part that’s the problem. Every survivor is seemingly clairvoyant. At least with GF survivors have a much more reduced time to react.

First off, Wraith with no add-ons is arguably the worst killer in the game for good reason, so if you don't have any add-ons then that might be your problem right there. Second, there is no reason to play Wraith over Ghostface, except that wraiths add-ons change how he plays, or just personal preference.
And third... It's Wraith. There's not much to expect. Like Trapper and Myers, his kit makes him waste too much time and doesn't refund it with a proper snowball unless some extreme conditions are met. The best advice is probably to play hit-and-run. It's weak and basically relies on noobstomping, but it's better than noobs stomping you. Also, hide til the first note of the bell rings before popping out of cover, his legs are glowy stockings for the first part of his uncloak and it really does give him away.

that is very true, and thats why GF is a better killer than Wraith.
like i said, try bodyblocking them before / while you uncloak, thats pretty effective.
other than that, try learning how much the speedboost increases your range and how you can use that around loops - if you get that down you might be able to pull some really nasty plays off.

Try faking uncloaking to bait a pallet throw

Never mind. I’m giving up already. I feel like I’m just severely handicapping myself by even trying to use Wraith.

Boneclapper or silent bell is a must if your playing stealth wraith otherwise you need to body block while your cloaked
0 -
What add ons are you using? You need the silent bell or bone clapper for surprise hits.
0 -
I’m level 3.....
Like I said, I’ve never bothered with Wraith, other than messing around here and there. I unlocked all his perks via Shrine for other killers.

I feel like you can do more interesting things with wraith compared to gf tbh especially with his add-ons.
0 -
You only actually ring the bell halfway through your uncloak progression. Standing behind a LoS blocker until that point can cause survivors to not run until they're in range of your super-lunge.
0 -
Uncloak from the otherside of a wall, and use the speed burst upon appearance to run around the wall and hit them.
6 -
Just keep grinding until you get one of those add ons then. Bone clapper is only a yellow so it shouldn’t take too long. Just be mindful that without those add ons you’re giving the survivors a huge “I’M HERE” signal everytime you go for a surprise attack.
Truth be told Wraith is trash. He’s bad in a chase and sprint burst and spine chill both put a stop to any attempt at surprise attacks and both are in the meta right now.

Well, you are. I´ve encountered some pretty good Wraiths though, guess there are people that main him hardcore and can make him work.
In case you´re doing that for the archive challenge, do it with the silent bell. Almo gave decent advice here, too, but in the end it´s really hard to land those suprise hits.

Oh I’m not bothering. I feel like I’m unnecessarily handicapped using Wraith.
1 -
This exactly what I’m attempting to do.

If you really want a treat, use All-Seeing (Purple or Pink, it doesn't matter, they're both ridiculously strong) and Windstorm - Blood. I don't play much Wraith, but those are just so fun. You zip around the map and know exactly what's going on around you - what more could one ask for?
1 -
I don’t have the patience to suffer through however many matches from lv 5 until those start appearing in the bloodweb at whatever lv that is.
1 -
So...
My recommendation is to leave your level 5 Wraith for now, stockpile some blood points by playing literally anyone else until you can push him up to at least level 20... ideally higher. Base kit Wraith is pretty weak so you NEED 4 perks and at least double yellow add ons for him to be decent.

Oh man... Wraith during the 4th year Anniversary event was hilarious. His cloak didn't hide the glitter effect when you had picked up a crown... so... I had several games where I was getting chased by a cloud of glitter. And one where a cloud of glitter camped a guy to death. It was just so goofy.

I've been playing Wraith quite a bit and his speed boost doesn't work sometimes. Dunno if it's certain add-ons or what, but I uncloak and no speed boost. Which also means no quick hits between eating pallets.
You also bloodlust with no noticable speed boost. He's absolutely pathetic at loops with no specialized perks for it.
And directional sound for the bell is a huge disadvantage paired with Spine Chill always giving you away. He also glows bright orange and has dinosaur feet if you didn't already see or hear him.
Devs expect you to stand still then uncloak when they bump into you. There's almost no active chase mechanics you can take advantage of without heavily investing in add-ons that actually surprise them.
Maybe my opinion will change once he's P3, but he's been hell to play as going up the ladder.

I've had great success maining wraith up until mid-purple ranks, and have the following pointers.
As others have said, he is the worst killer in the game without add-ons. But if you P3 him and have your pick of add-ons, there are a few great builds:
- Green/purple windstorm + purple all-seeing (see all survivor auras within 12m when stealthed)- this is my personal favorite. You will never, ever have problems finding anyone or losing anyone in a chase (note that this is not the same thing as being GOOD in a chase). You'll be the only killer in the game that WANTS Yamaoka to pop up- you can get so many free hits on survivors hiding in the pitch blackness behind rocks. You can win nearly every jungle gym guessing game- just re-cloak in the middle of the jungle gym, and wait for them to come too close to you.
- Green/purple windstorm + purple pallet smasher- this is a pallet eating build. Re-cloak anytime someone drops a pallet, and destroy it near instantly. Combine with bamboozle, and you don't need enduring + spirit fury to be semi-decent in a chase (three perk slots left open).
I personally don't get a lot of utility out of the distorted clapper (survivors usually run if they hear the bell no matter what), but at a lower learning level it is useful.
Next, don't commit to a chase for the first hit (if spine chill tips them off 30m away and they start running). Get very, very close to someone who isn't 4m from a pallet or vault, and you should be able to land the first hit. As others have said, start right on top of them if you can.
For getting the second hit, you should be cloaking and de-cloaking CONSTANTLY in a chase (zoning, blocking vaults, etc.). You can get that first hit, and still be back in front of 5 seconds latter. The idea is that you are constantly right on top of them, and one wrong move means you get the hit. This doesn't work against great loopers (Wraith gets annihilated by great loopers), but you will absolutely destroy the "Hold W" crowd if they aren't also strong loopers (having Bamboozle really helps).
As to perks, I usually run BBQ, Devour Hope, bamboozle and corrupt intervention. Wraith can get great utility out of DH, and protect the totem better than almost anyone else in the game. Even 1-2 free hits at 3 tokens is usually enough to turn the game around (since everyone else will be frantically searching for the token at that time).

Okay, Wraith isn't the best of killers. But going in with zero addons and practicly zero perks with a killer you've barrely played vs what i assume are high ranks is asking to be stomped on.
He isn't the best killer but he's far from unplayable.
1 -
This is basically how I do my dailies with Wraith when I get them.
Also he has an uncommon addon that makes it impossible to tell the direction/distance of the bell, so that really helps a lot. You just uncloak behind survivors working on a gen from the direction they least expect and they practically run up and give you a hug.
That said, I still think Wraith struggles a bit though and needs a little love. He's the one killer who really gives up a lot for his stealth - I'd like to see more movement speed in stealth... or at least perks like SC & OoO cease to work while he's cloaked.

He is addon dependent and map dependent (No big maps same for most killers). Bone clapper is yellow rarity which is pretty solid, theres another one forgot the name but he makes no sound coming out of stealth which is also pretty damn good, but double windstorm is probably most meta on him just because of the insane movespeed you get so i would highly recommend that combination. As some other people said already, you have to get good at bodyblocking (easy with windstorm addons) and just play from there. Bing bong in chase to confuse other survivors (works really well with boneclapper). There's a lot of different builds you can try, I HIGHLY recommend Whispers though because you can quickly find survivors in the beginning without wasting too much time and if ur zooming around the map in stealth you can check an area WITHOUT seriously checking the area by using whispers which saves you tons of time on a killer that can't afford to lose anytime. I have played a decent amount of games of wraith in red rank throughout the years and he can be successful, but vs really solid teams he just can't keep up unless they make mistakes or you just play out of your mind good and mindgame every ######### pallet by moonwalking.
Above all.. you have to wear his spooky Halloween blight skin to SCARE the survivors which is a guaranteed 4k if your a spookymaster. Basic wraith is not scary or spoooky so survivors won't tremble in fear at the sight of you when you come out of stealth.

Well from what i've read in the comments, @TheClownIsKing : This is a guy you really need to level up first.
Use other Killers or Survivors if you can't stand bare-bones Wraith.
And since there's other people commenting here who know the best general tips for Wraith, me telling you to level him up is pretty much the best advice i can give.

Play "Bone Clapper" or silent Bell. At least "Bone Clapper" should be basekit.

Its how it is with a lot of killers without anti-loop
