Because that was a dumb exploit to begin with.

Kinda annoying that they made Balance-Changes to Badham when they added the new graphics, but one of the worst Maps (Shelter Woods) still has the same issues.
Like a Balanced Landing-Spot without climbing that tree would have been nice.
17 -
Did they add any hills to that map?
If not that's kinda sad, a perk cannot be used on a very specific map.
13 -
Can we just delete Shelter Woods please? Half the map is a dead zone. I groan every time I get it.
31 -
Why is it a dumb "exploit"?
It's not like survivors could hold the game hostage with it or something else
20 -
Because it meant a killer might have to think about the way they chased on an already very killer sided map.
12 -
It was quite literally the only spot on the map BL could be used at. Right now Shelter Woods is completely flat.
11 -
Not sure I'd call such a large map killer-sided just because it can potentially spawn the least amount of pallets in a very rare scenario.
7 -
Exploit? You mean that one sigle spot where you were able to use BL? Like "this map F***S BL" ? I won't call it an exploit
8 -
If that tree was on Coal Tower it still would be an exploit and should be fixed. Ask for a naturally generated hill instead of an exploit on some random tree.
2 -
Clipping your way into a tree in order to get enough height to proc BL is not the most "obvious" thing I think when chasing someone. I don't care if they put naturally generated hills on that map but that exploit on that tree was dumb.

Half of the map is always deadzone; it is killer sided and if I get it as killer, no matter my build, I'll win, because of this.
Edit: to be clear, this isn't me complaining; just saying it how it is.
2 -
Noone clipped into the tree at all; they walked on the surface of its roots, which a killer could do too. Exploit my ass.
6 -
Actually, no. Half the map is very rarely a deadzone, and when it is then the other half is usually full of the missing pallets. And on top of that, it was the OG hold-W map til Midwich, which alone makes it extremely survivor sided.
5 -
It just makes killer feel very cheated when a survivor falls down only 1 foot from a tree root, and then zips off. It feels unintended in comparison to other exhaustion perks.
0 -
No, it almost always has mostly deadzones. Maybe it was once, but it hasn't been a hold W map for the last 2 years at least.
3 -
Exactly as it’s intended. That’s a gamble of running BL. You shouldn’t expect that it’s usable/optimal on every map, same as Lithe (for example, Rotten fields versus badham).
If you want more control over an exhaustion perk, you should be choosing Sprint Burst or Dead Hard, but even they have their compromises.
2 -
Uh,but it was the only spot (besides the stairs to the basement) where BL users could trigger it,which was always kind of awkward to do too.
Would rather take that than dead for distance tbh
1 -
Just use the basement stairs 4head ;))))
2 -
If a survivor knew about the tree, and had balanced landing in the current year I definitely wouldn't feel cheated, I'd commend them for actually knowing and using something that's kind of niche and very specific. Why would you feel cheated? It's literally like a 99ed sprint burst. Are you gonna tell me that you don't feel cheated when a survivor runs, stops for a split second and then zips off with SB but you cross the line at a survivor running up the roots of a tree and falling off?
7 -
As I said in another response, it shouldn’t be expected to use BL on every map, or get optimal use out of it, like Lithe.
If somebody wants more flexibility in their exhaustion perk they should go with SB or DH, but even they have their compromises.
0 -
I’d rather neither.
No killer wants to get in range of a hit after dealing with looping or 360’s, only for a survivor to suddenly zip off.
I’m just pointing out that tripping over a tree root and suddenly sprinting away feels like an unintended way to get BL to activate. It’s not “falling” in the same way it isn’t “falling” when each foot is momentarily off the ground with each step while running.
2 -
Seriously guys, why argue about a dumb way of proc BL when you could ask for a proper way of using that perk (like a hill or something). With a hill or a two story building you have some kind of baiting or something but with that tree it was just two scenarios: 1- the Killer don't know and feels cheated on or 2 - the Killer knows and cuts through it then the survivor feels cheated.
3 -
You can still use it at the stairs, it's just that doing so well is hard. Now, please note that Lery's turns several characters into M1 killer's.
0 -
Hows it an exploit? Its literally the only place you can activate it.
0 -
It really is. I played a killer I haven't played since January(plague) and won really easily, even though can't aim VP at all.
1 -
when you are so bad at killer that you think that was an exploit lol
1 -
Nea zips off from stepping off a tree root, and that makes me a bad killer because I do not consider it “falling”?!
2 -
That's a weird change. I'm gonna miss climbing that tree :(
0 -
That's not entirely true. You can still activate balanced landing if you jump down the basement.

Sadly the only stats we have that show the survival rate for every map are older than a year but those stats indicated that shelter woods is one of the worst maps for survivors with a survival rate around 40%.
Of course some maps were changed and other maps were added (maps like hawkins who are worse for survivors) so I guess that shelter woods would probably be more in the middle if the Devs would release stats again, but I doubt that it is a good map for survivors.

the audacity of calling the change of one obstacle on one map a shadow nerf to balanced landing.
0 -
so wait balanced landing is literally unusable on one map?
0 -
So when my Stake Out is useless because of stealth killers it's fine, but them fixing wonky collison to make BL not work on a map it was never intended to work on is a problem?
Lmao oh survivors.
0 -
No, you can still use the basement stairs; but only when you're chased from a specific direction.

Mans said an exploit #########. You can still hit survivors who climbed the tree it ain't an exploit my guy
0 -
how many times did it happen and you still can't counter it?
0 -
Absolutely 💯 wrong. I Play 8 to 12 hrs a day. Dead zones and killer sided for sure. I notice more and more dead zones, unsafe pallets, with combination of hitboxes being a joke. If the killers have blood lust, with combination of unsafe pallets and those unnatural 360 lunges they hit you with is lame af. Its EZ... So tbh if they keep nerfing survivors tools to survive, then same should be done for killer...no bloodlust. Killers are already faster and they lunge up to 6 meters. Basic attacks killers can 360 swing. Lunges you cannot.

The stats are very heavily skewed by people that have no idea what they are doing. For example, The Game is one of the most survivor sided maps in the entire game. Every single pallet is completely and utterly safe, there's plenty of them, and the killer cannot cut people off mid-chase or glance around for info. And yet it has the lowest survival rate.
I really, really wouldn't trust them. Ever. They never take into account the content of a trial, only the result.

I don't think that the actual numbers are realistic, but that they can give an info about the distribution. I can understand your argument that people might not play indoor maps correct, but shelter woods? There is no specific skill to shelter woods, there is no main building, the pallet spawns aren't crazy and the map layout itself is simple. Rottenfields, a map with a similar layout (and I believe the size was similar back than too) has the top survival rate. My problem with shelter woods is, that the map is so lazy (it has only trees, Rocks and tiles and the trees are not even good as line of sight blocker) and is heavily rng dependant. You might get many pallets or only a few, you might geht junge gyms or L-and-T-Walls/Long-Wall-short-Walls. The big size can definitly work against the killer though, don't get my wrong.
I don't think that shelter woods is the worst map in the game nor the worst map for survivors, not even close, but I still had hope that the Devs would make this map more interesting when they updated Macmillan.
The problem in my opinion with indoor maps is (and why they all have low survival rates) that it is harder to find the gens and keep an eye on them to prevent a three gen. The killer can also protect the gens better because the map is smaller. Being able to loop is great but gen rushing counters every killer and every (most) survivor can do it, because it is easier than looping. I had many matches, were the killer downded people quickly, but the gen still flew (mostly no mobility killers on big maps).
Also your point that the killer can't spot survivors easily applies to survivors too, because it is harder to spot the pallets as survivor too (for that reason I think WoO is great on the game). The game has also very few Windows, so if players aren't careful they can create deathzones pretty quickly.
So in general I agree with you that the game isn't as bad as people think it is, but the pallets aren't the only important factors on this map imo.
