blight lunge is ridicolous
it's ######### massive

It's a different attack altogether with a different hitbox. Scott Jund has a video on what the hitbox for the blight lunge is.
Also, the lunge can be dodged in a lot of cirumstances. So, the lunge does have counter-play. I don't feel like his lunge needs to change. The Blight is a killer that requires a ton of skill to play well. Look at the stats for killer escapes if you don't believe me, he's right next to the Nurse with the highest escape rates for survivors.
Now, Nurse and Blight are both strong, I'm not making the case that they're weak, but they're also both fair in the sense that you need to invest time into learning how to play them well for them to be strong.

It's roughly a 180 degree semicircle in front of him, so it's very wide, which is important, since if it was like the normal lunge, he would be super easy to dodge even for potatoes. You basically need to get behind him. If you have dead hard, turn around and dead hard THROUGH him, it's a guaranteed way to annoy the ######### out of any Blight, because he'll have a longer recovery time and 0% chance of hitting you. If you Dead Hard AWAY from him, then his lunge lasts for long enough to actually hit you after Dead Hard is over.
Blight hates any kind of round loops, or J-shaped bits of junk on the ground where you can get into a little nook of safety. Take advantage of these things. Don't try to loop him like he's a Wraith or something or you're gonna have a really bad time.
Also, pay attention to whether he's in his first rush (in which he can't attack) or subsequent rushes. Never waste a Dead Hard or drop a pallet for a first rush. And especially never drop a pallet while he's in recovery after missing or cancelling a rush. I can't tell you the amount of times I'll come up to someone while recovering as they're camping the pallet and they just drop it right there, while I'm completely unable to attack. Even better is if they stun me, so I get to skip my recovery animation for a shorter pallet stun. For the love of all that is good, don't waste a pallet like that.
Also, big, wide turns in one direction, followed by a big wide turn in another direction (wide but sharper than the first) is a really good way to dodge a Blight lunge. I'm not sure what it is about this move, but when people pull it off, I have a WAY harder time landing hits. I think doing wide turns and then going a different direction baits out some of the distance of the lunge, in which case my lunge direction is already committed, but because they still go wide on the second turn instead of just cutting straight in that direction, my lunge can't cut them off and they just watch as I helplessly swing at nothing.
