New players and DLCs

So, I've tried multiple times to get some of my real life friends to buy and play this game with me, and almost all of them don't want to spend money on it not because of the gameplay, but because of the transactions available. This makes them even more upset than the fact that the game isn't very well balanced, the slightly toxic community, etc.

Everytime I tell them there are many different playable characters, including, for example, part of the Stranger Things cast, they get excited. As soon as they know they're behind a money wall, they get dissapointed. They ask me why most of the roster isn't available from the start, or why original characters also cost money.

Most of them are okay with the cosmetics, but then I tell them about the Battle Pass and that's when they get confused and ask me why is there a paid battle pass in a paid game, and I honestly don't know either.

The conclusion for me is that the amount of DLC and the fact that the free characters in the game is so small from the start, that they refrain from buying the game because of that. I understand that licenses are paid, but why must we also pay for original DLC? Can't we really get more free stuff on a game we paid for?

Let them try your game then theyll be hooked... Seriously though, it sounds like youre friends are pretty entitled if they cant be happy with everything that comes in the base game. Just make some new friends.

    • this game isn’t pay to win
    • there is a FREE rift
    • its entirely possible to play, and win, as either survivor or killer without perks/add ons/items
    • there is a TONNE of content WITHOUT paying for ANY of the DLC’s

The game is fun even without the DLCs, I got the base game for Christmas last year and I enjoyed it! I started getting the DCLs because I liked the characters they had. That's it, you can still play without these characters, if you want them then sure pay for them.

The thing that is most annoying is that the learner perks are almost all DLC, as are the best perks.

If your friends really do like the gameplay, the best thing for them to do is buy the game on sale and then buy the DLCs they want when those go on sale. The game and DLCs go on sale pretty regularly. I waited until the Stranger Things DLC was half off before buying it.

However, this game isn't new-player friendly. The grind is atrocious, I'd personally be surprised if your friends stuck with the game for very long after purchasing it. That's nothing against them, it's just that in so many ways this game chases away new players.

Battle passes are the future business model of retaining players and getting some extra money on the side. It won't ever go away.

And besides that, the dlc for this game is wildly cheaper then everything else on the market, and is on sale every quarter of the year guaranteed. New maps are always free.

Playing the game regularly can earn you their original characters, any perks they have with the shrine, and get you everything on the battle pass and your money back assuming you dropped $10 for the auric cells then grinded out to 70.

And the challenges in the pass give you good chunks of bloodpoints. I often find myself dumping points because I keep hitting a million.
