3-genning survivors

I'm relatively new (think I have about 350 hours in). I play survivor way more than killer but I like both.

As killer, I will pick 3 gens relatively close together and patrol those the most. I'll travel outwards of course but try to stick to those 3 gens to make it easier to patrol.

Serious question, by forcing a 3gen, is that toxic?

I hate when that happens. I play solo and can't know how close teammates are when it happens naturally.

I don't think it's toxic that you do that though cause thats what the devs allowed as far as placements of gens..

No. That is simply a tactic. You would be well-served to simply purge the word "toxic" from your vocabulary and ignore anyone who throws it around. It is, at this point, a meaningless word. And for what it is worth, while you can increase the odds of a 3-Gen taking place, it is the Survivors that ultimately decide if they are 3-Gen'd or not. That isn't on you.

It's not. But it also doesn't make you any better at killer. And it's a pretty boring strategy imo, since you basically will be dropping chase every 10 seconds.

It works well in low ranks because survivors are afraid of terror radiuses, but in higher ranks, unless you get a map like azarov's it's probably not going to work.

It’s a pretty normal strategy and i don’t get people that say survs 3-genned themselves when it’s the killer that can pretty much do this..

in most cases this will lead to all 4 survs being alive though and they can with some coordination easily get one of the gems done, so I would suggest not to be too determined for this strategy from the very beginning of a match.

Nope, thats strategy. Half of playing killer is deciding which gens to give up in order to protect others better.

However good survivors can recognize what you're doing and try to break the 3 gen early, or split up onto 2 of the 3 gens and run when you get close.

Definitely not toxic, it's just good strategy, especially with killers that are more defensively oriented like Hag and Trapper, etc. Basically trying to patrol all seven generators initially is a fool's errand, the map is too large to effectively do it, so you do want to sort of figure out early on roughly which half of the map you're going to be defending in the later part of the game and aim for the final 3- or 4-gens to be in that half. If the survivors manage to split the gens on you then they're almost certainly going to get all the gens done unless you are really dominating them.

Awesome, thanks y'all. As @Moundshroud said, I'll purge toxic from vocab. Like, I am one of those weirdos who cares if the other team has fun too, but I admit when I 3gen I really patrol the hell out of them. It becomes a battle of wills at that point. that's actually what I like. They're down to 1 gen and I can't let them have it. It's the massive pressure that I love. Lol

Thank you all for giving me perspective!! Appreciate it!

Most gen locks are brought upon by incompetent survivors, not killers patrolling. A smart survivor (or set of survivors) will work the middle generators first if at all possible, then work their way out - making sure to leave a generator incomplete next to an already worked on/completed gen.

No it's not I've played against 3 gens and sometimes it's the end of us other times the killers away to long and we escape it's not toxic.

i usually make sometimes even no hooks(!) for first 1-2 gens but then, with blight, the ultimate gen patrol boi, it becomes impossible to win

of course none of that related to the meat plant where i dont make hooks at all🤡

btw it is actually the best map to 3 gen, i have to try it. hold em all in basement if you are lucky to get at least 4 gens spawned up
