The second iteration of 2v8 is now LIVE - find out more information here: https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/kb/articles/480-2v8-developer-update

Let's talk about Trapper

Now that wraith got his buff, Trapper might take that 2nd worst killer place.
I love the dude to death, he's my most played killer, getting those snaps still is the most satisfying thing in dbd. I once got 4 hooks 2 mins into the game with lucky traps. My best memories of this game will be with him.
so before you jump in with hasty conclusions because reading is a hassle for some :
-I'm not saying you can't 4k with Trapper.
-I'm not saying you can't win rank 1 games with him.
-I'm not saying he's on par with Freddy

That being said, why do I think Trapper is undertuned right now?
-Because half his add-ons are useless, some straight out not working just like Bubba's chili or being gimmicky.
-Because he wastes a lot of time gathering his traps. 4 toolboxes? You're just going to have to play him as a standard m1 killer or otherwise get genrushed.
-Because people can escape your traps first try and run away. You just spent more time gathering the trap and placing it in a good spot than the survivor did by rolling a dice.
-Because it can sometimes be absolutely BS how survs walk right past a trap and you don't because of hitbox problems.
-Because he can get sabo'd.
-There's too many perks that work against Trapper. I get it, he was the first killer, but that's still abnormal.

Despite this I'd say he's still good against solo survs at red/purple ranks.

BUT he absolutely plummet in the tier list against swf. No, not as in like any killer. Only Freddy suffers more from swf than him.
Why?
When they will see a Trapper, 90% of the time someone in their team will stalk you, disarm any traps or communicate their positions . You waste precious time gathering and placing them. You're just one. They're FOUR. You can't win the game if you have to tunnel one guy.
Meanwhile, they'll do gens because they know you already have your hands full. You're being pressured no matter what you do. Your power works against you. Freddy syndrome.
And in this happening-way-too-often scenario, you'll be a standard m1 killer. "Why did I pick this guy again" is a feeling that is a bit too common against competents survivors. They literally suck the fun out of Trapper. Out of the player. If there's one case for making one mode for solos and another for swf, it has to be Trapper. You're just not playing the same game.
I dodge when 4 claudies pops at the same time in lobby because I know the game will be centered around depriving ME of any fun I can have with the guy.
He just feels a bit obsolete nowadays.
The hag spawn with 10 traps ready at any time that are flat out better. You end chases as soon as they start and you can actually put map pressure with them. Someone who stepped in a bear trap will already have self-cared by the time you get to him. Hag will have him hooked and moved on to another surv.
I'm not a game designer and frankly I do not have the arrogance to say what should be nerfed/buffed/fixed etc. But as of now? Trapper? Not good.

He also suffers from the classic problem all immobile killers suffer from. Not being able to cross the map effectively which is hugely problematic considering his traps are spread across the entire map. Large maps are practically a death sentence. A good fix for him and a few other slower killers would be to make a perk that allows killers whilst out of chase to move faster around the map.

One other potential idea i have is creating an add on that reveals the survivours aura after they disarm a trap. The survivour will be made aware they did this so there will be counterplay.

There should definitely be a better
distribution of traps that are concentrated around the map "center".  Even odd shaped maps can be mathematicaly determined where central locations are.

I thought it should be baseline for his traps to have a small animated "chain chomp" effect. Think super Mario.

Third, people escaping traps should have a hindered status effect for a short time. Even people that quickly escape.

people who are trapped should get slowed down. Heck, the trap hits your feet and crush the bone! You shouldnt be able to fast vault and you should be a little bit slower. (No exhaustion after trapping, because you are not exhausted)

    Injured survs vault slower.

OP, they buffed trapper, now it's 3.5 to disarm.

if you're too far to stop it, it's only your problem. Trapper is good enough -_-

I play the trapper a lot too. Him and Michael are the only killers I’ve ever really used. the others just for dailies.

But iridescent stone and bloody coil when hex ruin is tucked away so they can’t get to it without disarming the trap is probably the most strongest thing in this game. With sloppy butcher and thanatophobia you’ll have at least 2 people hurt most of the game.

But yes having a killer to rely on his best add ons ain’t good.

Playing a bare trapper? Yes he’s probably the weakest killer. He’s such a nice killer though.

All i I ever thought I needed with the trapper was an extra trap. They should let him start with 2 traps.

His base kit is still weak. He needs more time when setting up traps.
