Eternal Blight, the final chapter?

I know this year’s Blight event wasn’t that great, but I do still love the Blight skins that have beenreleased this year (even if we can’t earn some for free) and the idea of the Blight event itself. Because of which, I’ll always look forward to another one. That said, there is one thing I’m wondering after visiting the official DBD website again. The Eternal Blight event is, according to the article of it, “the final chapter of the Hallowed Blight story arc”. What exactly does this imply? That they simply won’t continue the lore of the Blight? If that’s the case, it is very understandable. Most, if not all, questions regarding our fast boi Talbot have been answered, so there is no real need for any more lore. But I am kind of worried that this doesn’t simply imply that the lore won’t be continued, but that there will be no more Blight events after this.

That would be a real shame. Well, to me anyway. It would be great if next year, there would truly be an event going on again, where we are racing to get those cankers harvested for one reason of another, but that’s a discussion for another day (or one that many people are already having). Right now I’m just talking about continuing these events. Because the idea of the Blight event is so unique, I wouldn’t want them to simply return to the normal Halloween format. They created their own way of celebrating Halloween, that wasn’t simply an event that came and went. It added to the identity and the lore of the game. All that... and well, not going to lie, but I would still love to see Blight skins for Oni and Deathslinger. I am a bit a part of the problem, but I don’t buy many skins besides the Blight ones anyway.

I may be looking to deep into this statement, but I want to be sure of it. So, any answers would be appreciated.

I mean, the Entity still make the flowers, it's just that Talbot is now transformed and turned blighted, so there won't be any blight outfits from killers that arrived at the realm after his transformation.

but that doesn't mean they can't do blight outfits for next year, it's just that the story about the blight is now done and we know what happens every Halloween, there can still be outfits for Deathslinger and Oni, and heck, maybe if we're lucky, we could get licensed blight outfits for licenses just like we had for the Ghost Face, I can see one for each killer except from Freddy, I would be happy to see a blight outfit for the Demogorgon, the Pig or the Executioner.

but let's just see what they do for next year's Halloween when we come to it

Talbot experimented on many killers so we will still get blight skins for all of them new and old. You can think of it as them getting infected because Talbot did that before he mutated, which I think is what they are going with for the story.

Storywise, they just finished telling us how Talbot mutated into The Blight. The devs are not done with him, they created him to be a support character. In behind the scenes they mentioned Talbot being very close to the Entity and he is one of the only characters that was out of trials in limbo (after he learned about the serum from Vigo's journal) and could visit the void and other zones of the Entity that other characters can't go. They want to explore stories in these areas with him.

I'm crossing my fingers they separate the man from the beast as part of Talbot lore (thanks to the way they built him) and add him as a survivor ingame lol

  • I think we are on the same page with this, if I’m correct. Killers that entered the realm afterwards does indeed not necessarily mean that those are killers that come out after Descend Beyond.

Time doesn’t really affect the Entity’s realms. Because of which, from a story standpoint, new killers we get soon could have been in the Realms while Talbot was still a normal alchemist. Just because we get new killers, doesn’t mean they weren’t in the realms before he turned. We simply didn’t get to see them yet. Well, I at least pick this up from what you’re saying.

I truly hope new killers get some blight skins too. I absolutely love them all at least to some extent, and especially this year all three skins have been amazing (Goes for the survivor ones too though, I especially love Yui’s “mad scientist” look).

I do wonder if they will make skins for other licensed characters though. If they get permission or if they even want to do it. Ghost Face is still partially original, so it is possible they still consider him as such, thus making his an original killer blight skin. A part of me would love to see only original characters get blight skins. Simply because that means they have something iconic for themselves. But that part of me is pretty idiotic. If we get licensed killer blight skins, that would be awesome, that goes without saying. I’d absolutely love to see it. I especially hope for Michael, Amanda and Demogorgon skins indeed.

But yeah, waiting is the best option. We’ll see next year. Thank you for answering!

Agreed, Talbot has proven himself to be probably the most important character ingame next to the Entity and the Observer. He's far from finished and I'd love to see him become a survivor again.
