What's up with the Jake's Rift Headpiece?

Why it got a blue beard added to it all of a sudden? Is this a bug? Or BHVR just shadownerfed Jake's anime head?
It looks so much worse with the beard. Why would they do that?

It had been stated in the patch notes of the latest update that the missing bears was indeed a bug.
