I’m stupid! (And Freddy scares me 😓)
I’m relatively new to the game, I’ve been playing for about two months now? I’d like to think I balance my time pretty fairly between killer and survivor. I have played AS Freddy, so I understand his abilities and his limitations etc. I don’t think he’s over powered or anything because I’ve seen people dunk on Freddy more than once.
Here’s the thing- when I play against him as the survivor, I suffer. I just don’t know how to counter him effectively and I’m sure that’s partially due to my inexperience... I would like to get better though, so if any killer mains who know a thing or two about Freddy or experienced survivors have any advice for me it would be greatly appreciated :)
(Side note: I played against three Freddy’s with Ebony Moris today and I was decimated every time 😞😞)

Keep note of where and when he's placing traps. If he's trying to lock you into a loop, try breaking off into another loop.
Being awake weakens him so try to keep awake whenever you can. Things like fail a gen skill check when you start working on it. Chances are he's chasing someone and won't come to chase you off. Have the person you just unhooked wake you up.

I love playing against Freddy.
Get comfortable playing in dream land. Make his biggest strength, your strength. If you're always aware of where he is, and have your escape plan in order, he is pretty easy to beat.
And for poo and giggles... bring diversion. Once your in dreamland, Freddy has the power... but it's hilarious to watch him fall for the ol' pebble trick.

the biggest counter for freddy is waking up he is just an m1 killer when you are awake

Freddy can be tough even for longtime players if the Freddy knows how to play tiles and where to place snares.
A few tips. If Freddy isn't using any slowdown in dreamworld add ons or fake pallets, don't bother wasting time to wake up. You'll lose more time running there and back then you'd save and its only for 60 seconds.
Be extra wary of his distance when looping. Freddy's lunge is and always has been the same as Trappers. But his short height, in addition to his extremely short weapon (literally a glove) makes it seem like he shouldn't have hit you when he did. To this day despite the tons of testing and info from devs some people still refuse to believe his lunge isn't glitched.
If he's chasing you and you're running in the direction of a gen he may start to teleport ahead. This is a bit of a bad situation as he can either cancel if you double back or go straight for it and cut you off. Try to remember the location of any gens while being chased. If you lead him in the direction of an already complete gen he'll be mostly powerless. And you won't be hindering your teams progression.
Freddy's major strength is his ability to slow games down. Some freddys need additional help and so use gen regression or blocker perks.
95% of freddy players use either corrupt/pop or ruin/undying. I'd recommend making a build that can counter these. Heathers perk that can block pop goes the weasel would really hinder freddys slowdown abilities with Pop. And Small game is a god send for cleansing totems quickly at match start.
The tougher Freddies will most likely be using chaser perks like Enduring and Spirit Fury to optimise their chases. These are the ones who will really give you a hard time.
That said, these won't help you too much. Freddy is oppressively strong right now, his results are definitely too good for a killer with such a low skill ceiling. And a good killer with a couple of strong perks (especially the already stale ruin/undying meta) has made him even stronger due to his pretty strong ability to end chases and teleport around the map.
To your side note. Thats probably because in my experience a lot of freddy players arent... very good, at other killers. He can carry a bad killer pretty far. Sort of like how SWF can carry bad survivors a lot.

This was honestly a huge help! I think there are a lot of conflicting strategies when it comes to facing Freddy (from what I've seen) but this one makes a lot of sense to me. Thank you so much for taking the time to type this all up :,)
