Game After Game
Survivors just get whooped on. I play red ranks as a rank 1-3 survivor and it’s seriously the most consistent experience where everyone just dies even in high rank play. Survivors just don’t get the gens done in the majority of my games. I think it all boils down to just how easy it is to find survivors in this game given the available perks and abilities given to the killers. It doesn’t help that some of these maps are insanely small. It really makes me wonder if the devs are paying attention to win loss ratio for each side and balancing it accordingly. The least they can do is make it fun to die like Friday 13th. It’s not fun to do gens or die in this game but rather boring and frustrating.

Survivors have been making poor choices lately. Also been playing extra altruistic and paying for it.

If you're playing solo, then yeah. That's the normal experience, but it's not the normal experience when you play killer. Then it's trial after trial of 2×2, 3, or 4-person parties, with nearly every single survivor running the same perks and playing very aggressively with decent coordination, even from the random solo or two that are chilling with Kindred or Bond spliced between their other meta perks.
It really is a different world, playing at red ranks as both sides. But that's what happens when you balance a game around survivors not having info and/or having a potato, then giving players the option to have insane info and/or not have a potato.

Let's be real: About 50% of red rank survivors play like yellow rank survivors in terms of looping and decision making. No wonder every killer wins consistently. You literally just have to walk in a straight line and tap M1 to "outplay" most red rank survivors.
DBD desperately needs a tutorial for both sides - a REAL tutorial that covers looping and counterplay for every killer power.
I don't even want to play solo survivor anymore because most people get downed in 10-20 seconds consistently.

While technically an exaggeration, what you said has legitimate merit.
One of the reasons for the disparity of skill amongst Red Ranked Survivors is the Ranking system. It is simply too easy to pip as Survivor and that allows a lot of Survivors who should be in Green Ranks to be in Red Ranks.
This negatively affects both Killers and Survivors. Survivors get teammates who don't really belong in the Rank they are in, and Killers get some EXTREMELY easy games, and immediately following, get destroyed by Survivors who know what they are doing.

You worded it better than me. Personally I think the survivor ranking system needs some tweaks to sort red ranks out.
Chase performance needs to have more weight in terms of pipping/ranking up.

Precisely.
I'll be the first to admit, I do not belong in Red Ranks as a Survivor. I have trouble looping, but because I stay on gens and rescue teammates, I'm pretty much guaranteed to pip or safety almost every match.

Then there's me, chased first for 3 gens and facecamped on hook into a depip 😔

I'm not a god looper by any means but I knw how when I should be doing gens or going for saves/distracting the killer.
The problem is the vast, vast majority of red rank survivors have either been carried by SWF and can't hold their own. Or they're boosted by VSing bad killers up until that point.

The times I've played survivor recently, my teammates have been throwing the match. They either play too altruistically, or they run around just dropping pallets in a chase. I assume they're doing challenges, or a lot of survivors are new to solo queue.
Although, I will admit, the recent trend of people playing leatherface and just slugging everyone til everyone is down has been mightily effective. Otz recently showed this being done - it's always been possible with leatherface, but most killer mains avoid slugging everyone from the get go because it's no fun. There are a new breed of killer mains that don't care who suffers, and it's kinda lame. I sense a leatherface nerf coming.

One of the biggest things I have learned since going solo survivoring, is that we all are on a team, but yet competing against each other to pip.
Had a Meg race me to an unhook, had to position myself to kinda block her so I could get there first.
As a swf, your like, "IM going to go for the save" everyone else stays on gens.
Solo is like, "damn I need these altruistic points"
So while it looks like we may be playing dumb and too altruistic, we are just trying to pip up.

If they ever truly fix latency (highly unlikely) l think you will find the survival rate will increase.
l am not saying red rank killers are bad, but they do get a lot of free hits they normally wouldn’t. this would help make gens pop faster.
lt does go both ways but more against survivors. Just my opinion.

- Rank does not matter, survivors a while back saw to that, they complained it was too hard to rank up even though the value of rank is directly connected to the effort required to reach it, meaning the value is now FAR less then it should be hence complete potatoes hang out in the red ranks.
- My games have been going just fine both in SWF and Solo, it just mostly depends on how the killer plays, if they return to the hook the entire time then screw it, im out and going to a game worth a damn. Know that that obviously also scews any data the devs have.

I always found that green ranks are the best players. I'm not green so I'm not being bias, reds just tea bag constantly and purples play too altruistic. The grey's have no clue what they are doing and the yellow ranks aren't aware on how to loop. Green is in the middle and I've always had a good match with green ranks

If you play solo you are statistically more likely to die than escape in red ranks

This paradox get's me every time. When i play killer (rank 1) i go in 2 of 3 matches against very good survivors who do the gens coordinated and know how to waste the killers time. I have to sweat a lot to get 1-2 kills and don't de-pip.
When i play solo survivor (rank 3) i escape maybe in 1 of 4 matches. Killers have the upper hand against uncoordinated survivors who are only mediocre in looping. Basically everyone just plays for the pip and doesn't care about "winning", which makes it easy for killers. Of course there are the occasional matches where matchmaking ######### up and you go against a rank 11 killer. Or you have luck with the RNG and got Ormond or something like that. But then there's also the occasional match where you die on first hook because of NOED or you get tunneled out of the game at 5000 BP and de-pip.

I'm in the red ranks as survivor and the games vary a lot. Some are super easy, with the killer haven't little control of the map and everyone escaping, others are a nightmare. Granted, most times what changes the match is when someone is found and hooked.
If we manage to fix at least 2 gens before someone is downed, things will probably go well, but if we barely touched the gens and someone is already down, then someone goes for the save, then gets chased, then someone else goes for the save and only one person is working on gens, things usually star to unravel. Especially, if the killer decides to leave the chase, come back and just down the same survivor that was just unhooked.

I completely agree with you on the tutorial. I completed it a couple months ago just because I didn't realize you got free bloodpoints for doing it but the game doesn't even cover windows, pallets, looping, etc.

I've been having the same experience, but as someone who plays both sides, the game is definitely in favor of Survivors; which is what blows my mind. How can a team of 4 Red Ranks, with a game thats balanced in their favor, not manage to get 2 Gens done? My teammates consistently unhook in front of Killer without BT, they rarely do Gens, go on 20 second chases before getting downed, can't find totems, etc. I can't wrap my head around how they are Red Ranks, other than they were boosted by playing SWF and I got matched with them while their team is offline.
And if you only play Solo Survivor, I can honestly see why you'd think this game is Killer sided. I can't remember the last game I got an escape in; but Im holding to the reality that most players don't play Survivor well. Literally just last match, I was playing against Hag, had a Survivor slow walk(seriously, not crouched) to unhook me, miraculously they didn't set the Hag trap off, but then sprinted away, setting the trap off and I got immediately downed/re-hooked. Then, the same dude comes back, sets the trap off before unhooking me this time(also unintentionally), hides until it goes away, then goes for the unhook while Hag is running straight for me(I had Kindred) and I get immediately downed again and Killed. I basically got 1 hooked and depipped because a Rank 3 couldn't figure out how to unhook safely against Hag. Like bro, how on earth are you a RED RANK?
Imo, a chunk of these guys have to be artificially boosted by their SWF groups and never learned how to play as a Solo player, because there's no reason Red Ranks should be making such horrible plays.
This got a little heated, but after that last match and my mostly horrible night last night(1 pip from Rank 1 Survivor, and managed to black/depip almost every game because of these teammates/matchmaking), I need to vent a bit, lol.

Amen. I'm always amused by people who jump on and post about whatever they are upset about, claiming to be Red Rank (this or that) and then describing things in a way that CLEARLY indicates they are not, and haven't the slightest idea of what playing in the Red Ranks is about or like. It is as if they think pretending to be Red Ranks will give more weight to their arguments. All it does is undermine them as most of us instantly recognize it and disregard anything they say from then on, because you can't build an argument on a lie.

Please explain why you play if you feel so oppressed...for my own knowledge of course.
I believe this is the reason the devs have not taken action - YOU continue to play knowing you have no chance to escape unless the killer is a noob.
