Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Phobia/Killer Filter

I wanted to suggest that an option be added to opt out of facing certain killers. For example, right now if someone has a phobia of clowns they may be a great fan of the game or would be if they bought it but the fact that there is a clown killer dissuades them. I could see a spider based killer being made some day very effectively but then there is arachnophobia. If we could select one or two killers we don’t want to face with the understanding that this could increase wait time, this would eliminate this potential problem and potentially open up the game to an even broader audience.

This. While it is a good idea it would cause certain killers to basically become unplayable. It does suck though for the people with serious phobias/PTSD that they either have to be afk, eat a DC penalty, or just not play at all to avoid killers that are triggering to them.

what about this has to do about money. A feature like this would get abused. I know I would use it so I don't fight any Freddie's or ghostfaces and I'm sure many others would do the same.

What I don't understand is why someone would play a game that they know has a reasonable chance of triggering severe negative fear/stress responses.

Like, I dislike things that portray realistic depictions of surgery and bones breaking and thus avoid games/books/movies which show that. I know my limits and have no problem with cartoonishly over-the-top stuff like you'd see in Mortal Kombat or Gears of War, but I cannot watch that scene in Dr. Strange where he has the pins in his ruined hands (after his car accident) without feeling nauseous (similar story with Dead Space 2's infamous "eye-poke" machine).

Then again I played a lot of the beta for Grounded despite being deeply unnerved by the gigantic spiders out to get me, so what do I know?

Because when they bought the game 4 years ago whatever the trigger was wasn't originally there, there was nothing currently in the game for them to avoid. Before the trigger was added the person played and became a big fan of the game, maybe it was a great stress relief or took their mind off whatever had caused their ptsd. Then they added whatever the phobia/ptsd trigger is so person would DC when they would have to face that trigger to avoid it, but then DC penalties became a thing. So now you have someone that became invested in a game that now has to go afk, DC, or just entirely stop playing over a trigger that was added to the game AFTER they had already spent x amount of time/money into it.

It'd be like if you watched a horror movie you LOVED multiple times that had 0 triggers for you and then one day George Lucas got his hands on it and added something that is a trigger for you that you can't avoid without just not watching the movie.

The game is a live, "horror" game.

It's obvious they would add more killers that were similiar to "classic" horror game tropes.

More like, you have a chance everytime you watch that movie, to watch a diffrent take on it.
