Why am I matched with rank 1s?

I'm a rank 13 killer. I stay around that rank most of the time now a days. Out of my last 20 matches I have been put up against people 3-4 ranks lower than me only twice. Every other game is either purples or reds. I get stomped and de-pip multiple times and can not leave this zone.

When I'm put up against people around my level I have a great time. I win some, I lose some but it always feels like a fair fight. When I play against the purple ranks it constantly feels unfair. They have the advantage on me in both time played and perks available to them which makes sense due to their ranks.

Is this normal? Am I just supposed to deal with it? Git good? I feel like I don't really get the chance to git good because I barely get to play in these rounds. What do I do about this?

you can get matched with 7 ranks i believe. however the issue is pipping is quite easy providing you play alot so a huge majority of the player base will be red and purple, the longer time goes on the more that shall increase. please note the longer youre waiting means the more chance you have of versing people not your rank, this is because it expands its search to try find people so you arent waiting ages for your own ranks, this just keeps increasing. Your best options are:

    • accept it, rank dont mean all that much and you will get better and improve with time
    • Try a different time, there may be people closer to your rank playing at different times through the day
    • Just ignore the idea of match making, devs have said the ranking means very little and the skill gap between people in red ranks is huge. look at the game as if its just quick play with 0 ranking, some games will go good, some will go bad.
    • Just stay positive, if you win or do well then you just played over your rank!

keep in mind good perks, killer and map/loop knowledge will massively improve your gameplay, always go in expecting good plays or things like dead hard as itll prepare you for the worst and it can only go up.

Last night I got multiple green rank killers in a row as a solo red rank survivor. Including one Pig where I had 2 reds and a purple teammate. It's been busted the last week or two for me.

Do you have cross play on?

I was wondering the same thing actually.

I've been away from dbd for 2.5 months and so I've been put i green ranks by now (back to purple atm)

But a barely go against a red rank killer and mostly go against yellow or brown rank killers.

But when i play killer it is all over the place.

1 moment I go against full red ranks and the next match I go against brown ranks.

Now I don't mind that much but I don't think it is fun for the other side.

As killer against brown ranks, I win almost with my eyes closed.

And as survivor I know the loops to well to keep them busy.

Which for the killer isn't fun either.

I play on ps4, so no idea if it's only there or other platforms as well?

I play on PS4, same for me with my killer match making. I am rank 13 after the reset and still see a lot of red/purple ranks whether i have crossplay on or not. I generally play killer without crossplay since I see less swf during hours I'm able to play. I'm looking forward to whenever the devs are able to launch a functional MMR for less sweaty games.

One reason is that half of games include a swfs of some kind and when a rank 1 player groups with a lower rank friend it means they’re getting paired up as something lower than rank 1 for matchmaking purposes.

Also red rank players only make up something like 1/4 of the player base so even in a solo match they need to be matched against lower rank opponents sometimes to keep them from having to wait a really long time in the queue. Likewise for the reverse if someone is really low rank, they may need to occasionally get matched against higher rank opponents to avoid a long queue time.

Lastly ultimately the rank system is going to be replaced by the MMR system they’ve had disabled and pulling data in the background this year. When that happens the ranks won’t even be considered in who you play against so expect even wider looking rank disparities at that point (since high skill player with artificially low ranks will presumably be going against high skill players with high ranks,)

Yes this is normal, BHVR just haven't figured out how to do matchmaking. They're working on it now..

I blame the lack of an MMR system.

I always thought that it wasn't necessarily your rank that determined your matched players, but the playtime / experience you have with the killer or survivor you are using. 🤔

I'm currently rank 2 as survivor and played a solo match last night. My team were very potato even for solo queue. I get to the end game screen and all three of them were rank 13-15 and the killer was rank 11.

    First class matchmaking.
