Is matchmaking fair?
Most of the time I get to play against either much more skilled or much less skilled players. In my opinion it seems like the matchmaking system became broken or inprecise. I think it was way better back in the days.
Since I haven't found a way to ask the devs directly (facebook redirects here, nobody comments in my discussion), I considered creating a poll. Maybe if many of you vote, devs will notice the problem (if it exists).
If you have any info, please comment. I would realy like to know, if something is going to be changed.

Matchmaking is 50/50. It's sometimes okay, sometimes not.
"Fair" or "Unfair" are a bit tricky for me to agree with. I think the matchmaking system is fair, in that it's the same for everyone and doesn't have an obvious bias that makes matchmaking better for some players and worse for others. However, that doesn't mean that the matches are good. My opinion basically boils down to this:
Rank-based matchmaking will not reliably match up players of similar skill because rank is not a good reflection of skill. Skill-based matchmaking is necessary for things to improve, which they're thankfully working on.

Matchmaking should take into account playtime, instead of ranks or other stuff that may not be reliable. Let's say that, if you have 150 hours, you should only be paired up with people who have between 100 and 200 hours worth of playtime. Should it happen that there's absolutely no one within that range while you search (unlikely, but still) then it should move on to the next levels (less than 100, and between 200 and 300... and so on, you get the idea).
The devs themselves said the ranks are not an actual reflect of skill level, which is partially true. You may meet a rank 2 Hillbilly who completely sucks at doing his job... or you can meet a rank 16 Huntress who demolishes the entire team before even 1 gen pops. There's no middle ground and there's no sure way of knowing. Same thing with survivors.
I'm sure there could be some ways to make matchmaking and SWF somewhat fair for both sides using this mechanic. But as of right now, matchmaking is a mess.

There's no option for "matchmaking doesn't exist." Which isn't completely true, matchmaking at first tries to put people of similar rank together, but if it can't find similar ranks then it just throws anyone and everyone together. The more people of a similar rank playing at one time, the better matchmaking is for those players. The fewer players of similar rank it can find, the more rainbow matches you see. The time of day during which I play determines what colors I see in my lobbies.
The devs have pointed out that rank is pretty meaningless in terms of skill and they're working on a skill-based MMR system that should theoretically create more balanced matches.

I only said 50/50 because the survivors I play with are my skill and stuff but the killers I play with are skilled.

Matchmaking is unfair. I mostly play with / against players of other skill levels.
I always get sweaty groups or players who just have no idea what they're doing.
One game it's a P3 Claudette camping shack pallet, the next it's a default Ace running T L walls like a god.

Matchmaking is bad but I think the problem is due to the average survivor/killer population, low killer population means I'm gonna get matched with almost any team of survivors at random regardless of rank.

I'm slowly becoming a main deathslinger, and I always have to keep cross play deactivated. Otherwise I find trash survivors who don't have hands. The jukes players with keyboards can do are vastly superior ( I DARE YOU CONFUTATE THIS DEVS), and still the matches I find are still on/off: Either I find a god team where I maximum do 2 kills, because ain't still a tournament deathslinger, or matches where I just massacre everyone, where it's just shoot, hit, reload, repeat, end of the match.
Too much disparity, we need MMR back ASAP
