Undying is just ridiculous
Ruin stays up the whole game now, everyone is running around the map breaking every totem possible but there's always one that can't be found towards the end of the game.
To some degree I think the respawn of the hex should be timed, 60 secs. When it respawns the first time, it should show a small undying badge for everyone. Later when it respawns for the 3rd time it should reduce the hex perk tier one level (tier 2). 4th cleanse would reduce the hex to tier 1... 5th cleanse would finally remove it
Also inner strength is pretty much useless now, it should at least be able to stack for 2 slower heals.

I usually run a detectives hunch build with my friends so it's never an issue but that stupid aura reading is what drives me insane. It basically makes thrill of the hunt worthless as well.

Me who just saw a Killer DC when both totems got deleted less than 30 seconds into the match:

I honestly don't think that Undying was designed with the fact that newer maps have some totems that are close to impossible to find in mind. The least they could do is tell a survivor that Undying is active when cleansing/standing within the aura reading range of a totem.
5 -
I get your frustration but do you have any idea how annoying and frustrating it was to put on a hex perk only to have it gone within 30 seconds because it spawned right out in the open which happened in more than half my games effectively making you play with 3 perks for 90% of the match.
If it's that much of an issue run detectives hunch, small game, bring maps, cleanse dull totems etc. Problem solved.
14 -
Lucky you. I got facecamped by a Freddy yesterday evening, when his two Totems got cleansed (took even longer than 30 seconds, no Gen was done, I was his third Hook...).
I would have preferred a Killer who DCed. :I

Well, now that we know the Dev's are looking at the previous chapter each mid-chapter, like they did with the Silent Hill chapter last mid-chapter (Jesus take a drink each time I say chapter) I think it's pretty inevitable it's going to be nerfed. For one, I think they'll remove the aura reading on Dull Totems, and maybe add a limit to each tier. Tier 1 - only one respawn, and thus on. Or just give it a cooldown, that'll probably work too. We won't know until it happens though.
Let's hope they also make Blood Favor not terrible.

Yes, and the solution for old MoM or DS is hit again.
1 -
I had a match against a Blight running ruin, undying, and tinkerer on Ironworks of misery. Both Ruin and Undying were in the same building (foundary) right next to each other, good thing I cleansed Undying first.
0 -
Have to agree on that one. Ruin/Undying with stuff like Autohaven or Asylum in mind is totally different from Ruin/Undying on Hawkins or Saloon. Especially the Saloon got some really dirty Totem Spots in the Midchapter. So it might indeed become close to impossible to cleanse Ruin on some Maps.
1 -
What's that got to do with undying?
0 -
...cleanse dull totems etc. Problem solved...
1 -
What can I say, there's a reason Freddy rhymes with sweaty.
1 -
Well yeah it does solve the problem because then ruin can't transfer to another totem lol
0 -
I would definitely like to see a change to it as it has highlighted just how ridiculous Ruin is when it is up nearly all game. It feels like most killers are just going full auto pilot while Ruin/Undying/Tinkerer plays the game for them. And then if you have the audacity to try and cleanse a high mobility killer's totems, they'll be right on you due to the aura reading.
0 -
The thing is, the idea of Ruin is really good in general. Because it would only benefit good Killers, since they can apply pressure to have a meaningful result while Ruin is up.
But combined with Undying and Tinkerer, it can be problematic, because you dont need to be good anymore to have a benefit from Ruin. Tinkerer is a big "go there" sign and with the improving Totem Spots, it can take a while to cleanse both Hexes.
I guess there will be a change to Undying in the future. They wont change Ruin or Tinkerer, so I guess it will be Undying. Something like Otzs Idea that if Undying dies that a transferred Ruin will die as well or at the very least, they might remove the Aura Read.
3 -
Only issue I have with undying is the aura reveal.
Imo thrill of the hunt should have the aura reveal instead
0 -
Why are you playing these perks if it makes frustration for you ... ?
0 -
To all the people complaining about ruin+undying+tinkerer. Now you have some slight idea of how every killer feels when they face DS+UB+Adren+BT X 4
9 -
I personally don't like hex perks and wouldn't mind if they got nerfed into obscurity but they're supposed to be high risk high reward.
Baseline, they're high risk low reward as breaking 1 hex is pathetically easy to do so undying fixes this and increases the consistency making it real high risk high reward as you can still lose undying early and first which makes destroying ruin easy leaving you with with only 2 perks.
There's nothing wrong with undying, it's a hex and as hexes should be, is a risky perk to use. Sometimes it can last whole game other times gets cleansed in first 30s if totem spawns are bad.
6 -
Killers are relying on Rng with this build types tho. Hexes are bound to be found by perks or have the worst spawn.
0 -
This is what survivors fail to realize. Before undying, hex perks were a coin toss. More often than not, it was cleansed very early due to spawning on top of it, being placed out in the open or it was put next to a gen where people will see it. If Undying carried over stacks of Devour Hope then it would be broken. Ruin only works if the killer is applying pressure. Which has been what survivors have been telling killers to do for years. Literally any complaint brought up by killers about gen times was responded with "Duh, just apply pressure" Now that killers have a reliable way of doing that, survivors are angry.
2 -
They should keep the aura reading for dull totems but remove it for the hex totems
0 -
Well,undying CAN be ridiculous.
It might make Ruin last longer but it's still a heavily RNG dependent combo.
You get maps like Autohaven or Coldwind and your totems are pretty much gone already. You can also be just unlucky like me and almost always get your Undying found first.
The only maps that are really really good for totems are Badham,The Game,Lerys,Dead Dawg Saloon and Hawkins. The rest is pretty manageable

One day, I pray for lobbies without meta perks. Players with meta perks should play together <3

Wow. Oh no. A hex perk has a chance to stay the whole game now. What will we ever do. It’s not like we can run maps, detectives hunch and small game. We can’t waste time doing dull totems either right. Why would we want to do totems when we could just do gens and complain about a hex perk.
3 -
theres 1 new badham totem spawn that I legit would nave never found without small game. By the road tucked in between a curved bush a a fence
0 -
I mean it gets survivor to get something else instead off sitting on gens its so easy to counter just break all totems or undying just bring a map and detectives hunch if you have such a problem
0 -
Ruin/Undying is only a problem for solo Q where survivors forget to do gens. high level games the killer is almost required to run it b/c even if the killer has 30 s or less chase, gens get done by efficient teams. Hook 1, find another 1 to chase, still have 2 out there to finish the first gen they each work on. once is done 1 can go to another gen and 1 can unhook. rinse, repeat. solo Q with uncoordinated teams is where there are issues with this build.
I personally try to find a totem first thing in solo Q match before i start a gen. Dull or not b/c it helps in any situation now. I totally agree the aura reading should have been part of Thrill of the Hunt and remove the notification when a survivor starts a totem to balance it. That's the change I'd like to see the devs make.

It's always funny when survivors complain that ruin+undying it's an instant win to the killer. Like, yeah, my totens hit and hooked all survivors. Besides, one survivor with small game can delete half of the killer perks with one walk through the map, but of course that they won't do it, cause they'll need to remove one of the 4 second chance perks they can't play without.
Yeah, ruin + undying OP
1 -
Have to agree It's pretty overkill, I wish they'd fix gen times instead of a band aid fix that limits build variety to 2 perk slots.
Leaving it up screws survivors in the end game and Trying to get rid of both totems at the beginning at the least takes about the same time as doing a solo Gen and that's without acknowledging the time taken for searching for the totems as well as the aura reading letting the killer know you're trying to cleanse and stopping you.

Man, I must be the unluckiest person in this game, when I used it on my legion they got destroyed in like a minute in midwich.
No joke they are a strong combo but I think the thing that I want for it is, nerf aura reading for it, that is what makes it stronger than what it should be.
1 -
they should remove the aura reading from undying. it gives free bbq sometimes.
0 -
Dude if you play with randoms at all they legit give you barely a single totem's cleanse time in chase in red ranks. Add on the time I have to run around waving my totem detector and the killer has gone through more than a third of the hook states with 4 or 5 gens up. And this is all provided they don't chase me, which means I'm not breaking totems with Small Game.
If you want to refer to the aggressive SWFs that slam out gens and run full meta loadouts and are all good at chase, then yeah Ruin/Undying isn't nearly as ridiculous. But take it into solo/duo games and the game is over before it starts 90% of the time.

Undying On The Game Map? Guess I'll just live with the Hex this round.
0 -
It's RNG and one of the reasons I've stopped running it. When it works it really ######### WORKS, but in my experience it's Undying getting bopped and then Ruin right after it. I've been playing Nurse and Deathslinger recently. One doesn't need the set up and the other can't capitalize on the meta Tinkerer, Undying, Ruin, Discordance build.
My only advice is to switch up your build to focus on countering the new meta. Off the top of my head I'd say Small Game, Detectives Hunch, Head on, Inner Strength? Maybe switch one of the four out for Soul Guard. Only issue is it's not going to have much use against killers not running the meta or not using any hex perks.

I agree that the aura is the problem.
Regarding Thrill, though, it has a double effect, notification plus slower cleansing, which stacks too and with no cooldowns. I think it fills its niche nicely, it doesn't need changes.
1 -
Maps are not a commonly found item for survivors so they can’t be run every game. And Detective’s Hunch requires a gen to be completed which doesn’t happen easily if the killer has Ruin/Tinkerer. Small Game is somewhat viable but on a map like Lery’s, its use is pretty limited. I know there’s a totem somewhere in a 45 degree range in front of me, except it could be hidden in about a hundred places within that radius. On the maps where you don’t actually need Small Game it works fine, but on maps where you need help locating totems it’s really not that useful.
0 -
Then it's not a problem with the combo, it's survivors fault. The killer shouldn't be punished by the incompetence of survivors, there are four of them, to take out 5 totens.
I've stopped running the combo cause it's a 50/50 that undying will go first, and even when it doesn't, if survivors are looking for totens soon I'll be without half of my perks
0 -
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Seriously? Undying is ridiculous? You realise that survivors can (and in my experience always do) spawn right on top of both ruin and undying and get rid of both before the killer can even reach either of them?
Name a single survivor perk that can be removed 10 seconds into a game with no possible way to prevent it?
I'll wait...
3 -
I tend to agree. It could get by on the hex renewal alone, but the fact that it aura reveals at totems and gives no indicator unlike Thrill of the Hunt is what I think makes it over the top.
0 -
I'd love to get one of those totem spots! Every time I've ever run undying ruin it's been gone in less than a minute!
0 -
Simple. Just don’t let your totem get taken out in the first 30 seconds. Problem solved.
0 -
I feel like Detectives Hunch is such an underrated perk... It really is a good counter but you have to give it a chance.
0 -
I think there is an inherent problem with the combo. Hex perks are supposed to be really strong but cleansable as a trade off (lol at Blood Favor being a hex perk) but Undying guarantees they're up a good chunk of the game unless the killer gets really unlucky.
The fact that if I let go of a generator to get an unhook, look for the totem, or the killer gets a flashing neon sign saying this generator is almost done and the only input required from the killer is to run at me and my gen gets destroyed isn't healthy for the game imo. SWFs will just call someone over as they get chased off to finish it, slam 4 separate gens at the same time, or coordinate who is on gens but people without comms are just hopelessly screwed against it.

lol many maps as a survivor u spawn legit next to one

All I read were a bunch of excuses to things not being handed to us to find totems with as little work possible.
• I find maps in chests all the time a whole stockpile of them in my inventory.
•Detectives Hunch is soooo good. The only way you won’t be able to finish a gen at the very start of the match is because of corrupt intervention. Otherwise you should be able to finish or get really close to at the start of the match. If for some reason your team is struggling to finish a gen, it’s because they are not separating and not doing individual gens. Therefore the team is bad and you will lose regardless not because of Ruin/Undying.
All you need is one gen done and you have a full 64 meter radius that can be extended if you move towards another part of the map and discover new things during the activation period. Not only totems but other gens! You can easily find gens to do as far away from the killer.
•Small game is only 8 or 12 meters of a range (I don’t recall which exactly) there is not that much places a totem could hide like you are saying. If you use common knowledge and experience you already know where most likely the totem is.
I don’t even use any of these and can still find 3-5 totems a game just from experience of finding totems and knowing the totem spawns.
80% of my games I spawn on top of a totem!
Totems are not a big deal. People just don’t want to do the work to find them. They would rather sit on a gen and finish a game in 5 minutes and get an easy escape.

Made it myself

Totems on Midwich be like
0 -
Just move the aura reveal to Thrill of the Hunt. Boom a currently irrelevant perk becomes relevant and Undying only does what its needed for.
0 -
And if I want to use undying as my only hex perk? What will it do?
