Why do console players always having high pings?

I feel like every game I go into, console players or players with the circle symbol next to their name always have pings in the 100s. And there's always a delay when you try to interact with them. This would also put them at a severe disadvantage when the new hitbox system comes out (if it ever comes out) since it judges hits based on ping. Is there a reason for this?

Ever since the patch after Blight came out my ping is solid yellow and waffles between 120 and 140. Used to be green and 70-90ish before that patch. I clearly remember it because Blight's patch caused mine and almost all other Xbox1x consoles to insta-overheat, making the game unplayable for a week.

No changes have been made to my rig in months.

Console players are statistically more likely to have a wireless connection rather than a wired connection. A computer setup usually has a desk and is usually where your modem/router setup is located. A console is usually located in your living room and it is much harder to have a wired connection due to that. Wireless connections are known to be less stable than a wired connection for a variety of reasons.

Thus. Console players have higher ping on average.

Because Bill Gates, Jim Ryan and Doug Bowser have to sniff and lick your data packets and that causes a slight delay.

Console players typically don't know what an ethernet cable is

Most consoles run off wifi vs a cable, and there may be some extra steps for a console in between them and dbd servers (like has to go through a Sony gateway and then on to BHVR)?

Not sure on the last one, just spit balling.

That’s not my case or my friends case..

I play on console and I usually have 55-75 ping in dbd

the strange thing is that in other games my ping it’s around 20-45...

i guess dbd don’t have servers too near to Spain..

My XB1 is wired into my router and my ping is 30 if I get connected via the server that's almost next door.

Don't act like there weren't a million laggy PC killers. Thank you.

Very few console players use wired connections outside of fighting game players. Simple as that really.

Wifi, unfortunately. And not Wifi 6. I imagine many of them are on subpar connections to begin with, then in their living room, which could be a fair distance from their router, on top of any number of other factors. Even if their ping is low, they can still have a poor quality connection.

Of course, I'm sure a fair number of PC players are on laptops in similar situations, but statistically speaking I'd wager the vast majority of console players play over wifi.

I always use cabled connection and my ping is rarely past 50. My friends are the same.

I don't know... I've always needed stable connection to play the games I do, so cable was always the way to go.

On the other hand I rarely use cable on my pc (it's a laptop, so I do have the cable, but wi fi is better most of the times).

Anyway, I usually don't meet other console players with high ping when I play. Maybe it's a regional thing?

They have a server in Frankfurt and, iirc, one in Ireland.
