MacMillan Estate - Shelter Woods
Howdy, this is a simple topic; as many of you may know, Shelter Woods is the oldest map in the game, it was first seen during the betas of the game during Spring of 2016 and it's never been changed as much as it probably should have.
Though it belongs to the MacMillan Estate realm, it doesn't share some of the elements that other maps of that realm share, such as these filler pallets (ignore the fact there were more than they should have been):
While the lack of those filler pallets makes sense because those large boxes don't belong to abandoned woods, another element has never been shared with Shelter Woods which is what has been annoying players the most: hills; so if you know Dead by Daylight just a little you'll get what the point is: if you have Balanced Landing in that map, you can only use it at the main tree in the middle which is kind of uncomfortable and at the basement, making it a terrible map for that perk. So the question is about as simple as it can get: why aren't there hills in there and why shouldn't those be added?

Personally, i don't think a simple hill is enoguh to make this map more fun.
They could add some kind of tree house or platform for the middle tree, where you can go up with a gen on top and a vault with a drop similar to the gallow platform from glenvale. They could also make the tree hollow and add a vault in there to make the tree somehow usefull for looping.
They could make many changes that would change the map and make it more fun to play and more appealing and i definitely would love to see that. Cause right now it has nothing else than a giant tree that you can not even use.

Well, that's a different problem that Shelter Woods shares with Rotten Fields from Coldwind Farm and Wrecker's Yard from Autoheaven Wreckers. It's just the way they wanted to make one map for each of those realms: they didn't want a main building to be there for whatever reason, even though I'm pretty sure everyone would appreciate to have one there.

Honestly, since the rework I feel like Shelter Woods is almost a Red Forest map. The only link it has to the rest is the brickwork maze tiles

And the lack of rain

THis map is a nightmare if you are a nurse, if you did not come with distance addons it's probably just over.
Largest map in the game, and the gens are like a thousand miles apart.

Yeah, i agree.
Altough i'd say wreckers and rotten are more fun to play, because you have the bus/crane/harvester you can use on top of the normal tiles.
Shelter woods has two rocks and a pallet for the most part.

Shelter Woods? Largest Map in the game? Mothers Dwelling beats it by 12 tiles (almost 800m^2) and has significantly more LOS blockers and hard to reach gens

True, there is a noticeable lack of rain. But there could not be...

Actually as of the new Macmillan update you can't even go up the tree to trigger Balanced Landing. Because no fun allowed, I guess.
Unless they added it back recently which I HEAVILY doubt.

The devs never intended for survivors to be able to do that for reasons idk. It's nice to look at which is kinda entertaining.

They never intended for a lot of things, which is why they always massively overcompensate with changes that usually kills the experience slightly more and more each time they do it.

Yeah Shelter is a bit smaller that's correct; it's still far too big for Nurse. I also find it worse than mother's dwelling myself because of the layout and gen locations.

Yeah, I forgot to add this to the discussion, I found out that's not even possible anymore. They had the occasion to change that map up to make it more fun, and what they've done is remove the one interesting thing which was the Balanced Landing trigger on the tree. I just have no words for these developers whatsoever, I just wish I was paid too for doing things unthinkingly, sometimes it feels like the effort that players put into enjoying the game is higher than the effort that BHVR puts into making the game enjoyable.
