Why does Undying even have Aura Reading?
Feels like the perk steps on Thrill of the Hunt and Retribution's toes too much; they're supposed to be the dedicated defense hexes. Undying is a totem respawn hex it shouldn't be anything more.

Agreed, there's no reason why there's both.

Because they couldn't think of anything else to make it scale over 3 tiers.
They should just remove it and make the tiers "maximum of 1/2/3 uses" which at max tier would be no different to just not having aura reading.
7 -
They had to give it some condition so that it could have 3 different tiers

My guess is they don't want to make it a Perk that can only do a thing with other Hex Perks.
As for the effect it should have to not be that, it does feel like this Aura reveal should've just been on Thrill of the Hunt.

To make cleansing them when a killer isn't in chase to have some danger to them.
Also the aura reading doesn't persist unless you leave and reenter the totem area so the aura reading is MUCH harder to use then it sounds.
PS: Hex Undying is a defensive hex as its main purpose is to help you defend totems/keep other totems alive as all other defense hex perks have failed miserably in their purpose.

Probably so it has an active function as well as a passive one. But they probably should have gave that to Thrill of the Hunt (the perk literally designed to protect your Hexes).
Maybe Undying should provide a temporary buff to the Killer if cleansed (movement speed boost, faster recover, etc).

Yes that effect is unnecessary at least when used with ruin

the main issue with Nerfing undying is that its literally the only viable hex defence perk in the game.
Its the bare minimum in terms of power for one to see play as when was the last time Hex: Thrill of the Hunt/Retribution actually did anything in your games?
2 -
Because Undying doesn’t work if there are no dull totems to transfer a hex to. Undying allows you the opportunity to protect dull totems, if you choose.
4 -
It feels like it's there for two reasons - firstly, it allows you to protect your totems without running a third Hex perk. Secondly, so that Undying actually does something itself that isn't just "respawn ya hexes and take all their tokens."

It a bandaid fix though when a perk is released to be the standard, and previous perks which did the same job now become obsolete. Undying should have provided something else, TOTH and Retribution should be buffed.

I look at hex undying more as what type of power level hex defence perks needs to be to be used and its most likely only as strong as it is because they don't want to have YET ANOTHER unusable hex defence perk.
Also how would you even buff Thrill of the hunt to improve its defence as the aura reading won't help as its sound notification visual covers up undying's aura reveal(Yes i had nothing else but Thrill and undying on my blight at one point) meaning giving the aura reading to thrill does nothing.
Also outside of a full rework how would Retribution ever be a viable hex defence perk? That's a better question as buffing its numbers won't help it do its job.

So that it's useful even when it isn't combined with other hexes

It'd become Open-Handed for Killers.
Didn't put on any other hex? congratulations you now have a Hex Perk that literally does nothing.

Or you know, they could just finally remove perk tiers...

TOTH - Make Hex Totems count as 2 tokens, compliments Hex heavy set-ups. The notification should be periodic (every x seconds).
Retribution - It should injure any Survivor that cleanses a Hex Totem, truly punish Survivors. If necessary, increase the Aura reveal on the Survivor who cleansed the Hex Totem as well.

I don't see a problem with Undying having aura reading. It is still a hex defense perk, you just pick which poison you're working with. As a killer I like it more than Thrill, but as a survivor I'm actually more afraid of Thrill than Undying.

I kinda like your idea for retribution doing damage a lot more than obliviousness
