For reference, the ship generator is directly ahead and to my right was a hook. This is towards the edge of the map area but I'm sure the ship reference should do. Shack is way on the left side outside of the screen.
And yes, I've seen survivors go through this. My chase gets cut off here because I keep trying to go through but now I just avoid it.
