Question About Pallets

I've noticed a lot of players standing near pallets both in and out of chase and playing a game of chicken. I've even had survivors go for random pallet drops even when I'm minding my own business. Not saying survivors can't do this but...

Any ideas on why survivors do this? Any tips to help beat this would be greatly appreciated.

Without much context I can't really say why they're doing it. There's a lot of different reasons why some1 would do this.

As for how to beat it:

    1. Hide your red glow and swing back with a lunge to try for a quick hit

    2. Bait it out

    3. Just eat it

    4. Perks like spirit fury and/or enduring work

    5. Just lunge attack and hope that lag, hit validation, hitboxes or the survivor, let's the hit through

    6. Play a killer that has a power that can fight it

It's called pallet camping and honestly it's a bad habit imo.

More often than not it will result in the survivor taking a hit even if they stun the killer with said pallet lol.

It's seriously not a great habit to be in, pallets aren't always 100% safe and sometimes they can be janky when you try to drop them and whatnot. I've been betrayed many a time by pallet-kun.

Survivors pallet camp in-chase because they are not confident they can complete a full loop, but still need/want the pallet stun on the killer for distance.

If they do it badly, or if you mindgame them they might take a hit anyways, essentially "wasting" the pallet. It's a good habit to abuse - you always know you'll at least get a pallet out of the way if you plainly disrespect the pallet and swing anyways. However, if you are at a mind-gameable loop (they cannot see you over it), you can try to trick them:

If you change the way you're facing, your red glow will follow your gaze. You can use this to walk backwards around the loop instead of lunging straight through, so that the survivor doesn't see you coming around to hit them. You can then double back, change your gaze forwards and moonwalk back around the way you originally came to trick them further. Be careful doing this too many times in a row, because a smarter survivor will just run away from the pallet once you start doing this often.

They do it out of chase because they're potato or want to annoy you by showing you how they can abuse their safety. You can ignore them, or make them drop the pallet and take it for free. Don't kick a pallet if you see the survivor running away from it immediately, unless the pallet is very strong (Cowshed trailer loops, shack pallet,The Game pallets, etc.)

I sometimes like to stand at a pallet for a split second and then run to test the killer's reactions or if they even respect pallets. 7 or 8 times out of 10 they respect the pallet and expect me to drop it and it takes them a while to register that I started running again so I get another loop out of it. It works wonders against Legions. Although if they don't respect the pallet you get hit so it's a fun but risky play you can make that can pay off.

But actual pallet camping what you're describing is usually a bad habit that lower rank survivors have and it's hard to get out of it. But there are a few spots where it's better to camp the pallet. E.g at the "long wall-pallet-short wall" structure, in a chase you should just camp that pallet and throw it when the killer gets close if you're injured. Since it's a tall wall, all it takes is one moonwalk and the killer gets a hit on you, so it's usually not worth the risk because a lot of killers know how to play that pallet properly now.
