Question about grabbing off gen.
I’ve had a lot of times the last dozen or so games where the animation starts for a grab, then . . Nothing. survivor runs off and I chase (and usually hit them right away as they are pretty close).
Is this a bug? Or is this due to the way the servers are set up? Any way to avoid it?

Dedicated Servers-issue. It goes both way btw., as Survivor you can even let go and still get grabbed. Because on the other side, the Survivor left the Gen before he got grabbed or the Killer got the grab, so the other perspective is ignored, which leads to Survivors getting grabbed despite letting go and Killers getting the Grab Animation and a Hit or nothing out of it.
We basically have to wait for the Devs to fix that, nothing you can do about that on players side.

It's the servers. The game prioritizes what the survivor sees. That's why it takes away grabs literally all the time.

Don't be like that. It's a well known fact. It doesn't need a source. Try to go for a gen grab (outside of potato ranks) and you will get it about 1/10 times. Maybe with Ghost Face or lvl 1 Meyers you'll get it easier because of no terror radius.
I thought we were past this; the general consensus is that the game regularly takes away gen grabs.

Grabs are more consistent when the survivor is stuck in an animation like vaults over pallets/into lockers. Gen grabs, the initial unhook step (filling up the bar) are dependent on survivor's input. Not sure how it's validated but my experience leads me to believe it's not killer sided like M1s.

It’s a server/latency issue.
I had a match earlier this evening where I got a grab on someone who was unhooking, except the animation had clearly already finished on the survivor’s screen because the survivor who was on the hook dropped to the ground and ran off after I hoisted their mate onto my shoulder. Weirdest thing I’ve seen in a while.
Grabs are weird and inconsistent and often look strange on dedicated servers, is the long and short of it.

Its not a fact. Stop spreading lies declaring them as fact, when you dont even have a proof for that.

I guess we can't have a discussion about gen grabs then, because apparently every piece of information needs to be cited (some of which is probably insider information kept secret from the public) and all this other matter-of-fact red tape. Why, we might as well not have forums at all, because too many 'lies'!
And that's rich coming from you because you literally replied saying the exact same thing I did. We both said: "It's the servers"! If you don't need a source, neither do I.

I mean, obviously it is the Servers. This was also acknowledged by the Devs in one Livestream. And problems with grabs on both sides started when Dedicated Servers went live.
But saying that it is calculated on the Survivor Side is simply wrong.

You clearly don't play survivor.
Lots of instances where what the survivor "sees" isn't true. There are countless instances of survivors who run away from windows and taken several steps away only to still get downed by a killer strike from the other side.
This is clearly a latency issue and it affects both sides in many different ways, including huntress hatchet throws, gen/window vault grabs, etc.

latency controls hits lMO whichever side it favors
There have been times where l have grabbed a survivor through a window only to have them disappear
Then other times where l have literally reached through the window, past a tree and still grabbed them.

Please, stop this thread. I'm getting PTSD from when I tried to do that "grab two survivors off a gen with discordance" challenge as Ghostface and every time single time I would grab someone Ghosty would give them a friendly warning by tapping them on the shoulder and give them time to run away. That stupid challenge took me like 15 games. The grabs in this game are completely trash and don't work at all.
