Is Server Hit Validation on?
For the past few days, I’ve been getting hit through pallets like crazy, and I know what should and shouldn’t hit. I get hit when I’m way past a vault or when the pallet is already down.
I’m not the only one, am I?

It was off, and there was a notice here about it, but now the notice isn't here, and there have been patches, but -- as you point out here -- it's worse than it was to begin with. So, no clue ######### they are thinking here.

I've had hits reset when im killer but never when im survivor and its kinda pissing me off

I think its off because i get a lot of hits that shouldnt hit (ping around 50)

It's on but it either doesn't work, or it's extremely lenient to be as good as non existent. At least, from the point of view of my 32ms ping.

It is working, but it is supposed to let killers with 200ms ping still get hits, so don't expect hits through windows to disappear.
1 -
That's the opposite of what it's supposed to do
4 -
Nope, it is supposed to work only in extreme cases when killer's internet connection breaks and you get hit through the entire map. Preventing hits through windows was just a survivor community's fantasy.

They are really afraid of implementing too much validation because they still want hits to feel snappy for the killer but don't really care about screwing over the survivor. That was apparent in several of their streams. I would love for them to try either in PTB or a weekend, server side hit authority. They could also try connection-based matchmaking but they already have problems with the matchmaker so who knows what that would do to the game. What's the trigger for hit validation? Is it now 499 ms from 500? It still seems extremely generous.

What they want is to don't screw people who live too far from server or can't afford good internet. And DBD server coverage isn't great, you know.

It's definitely on. And it's definitely supposed to prioritise the player with the lowest ping - that could be either the survivor or the killer, so yes sometimes hits aren't going to feel as fluid due to this.

Yeah I understand that but at the same time you're screwing the experience over other players is also bad design. The approach of the Overwatch developers at Blizzard is pretty cut and dry. In so many words, they're worried about creating a fair and consistent experience for players. So if you live in a very remote part of the world, if you have tons of connection issues that maybe Overwatch isn't the game for you and if it is, you just have to deal with some setbacks related to your connection problems. What about raising the bar for people to queue up as killer? give them warnings that their connection is inconsistent or really bad and is such their experience as a killer may be less than optimal. Survivors have endured years of the killers being favored and everyone's getting tired of it now. It's also devastating for survivors to get lag hit, but the concern is always exclusively about what the killer sees and how their experience is going to feel.

Well, as a man who lives in such remote part of the world, I can say only one thing - if you don't like current hit system, may be YOU should be playing another game?

So what's the server tick rate now? Is it back to 60? Anecdotally, everything feels way worse now than it did prior to the whole Oni-related hit validation kerfuffle.
0 -
Yes @Rydog the server tick rate is back to 60
And if there's issues with the hit validation I really do recommend putting a thread where everyone can comment into the feedback section of the forum.

Oh yes that makes a lot of sense. Everyone with a great connection that's unhappy about getting lag hit should stop playing the game so the people with really bad connections can play. For the record that's what the developers of another game said. That's not what I said. I just happen to think that players with a great connection shouldn't have to suffer so much to provide a benefit to people with a bad connection, even if it is beyond their control. I know another game that gives you a warning when going into a very sensitive game mode, that if your connection fluctuates or is poor, your experience will suffer. Not here, if you have a bad connection your experience for the most part is fine it's the experience of other players that is ruined.

It's on and hits look worse than they ever have. I guarantee the console killer does not have a better connection than me. I have 40ms ping to the NA east server because I essentially live on top of it. I have a 1000 down/500 up connection. Hit validation is literally doing the opposite of what it's supppsed to do. I shouldn't be getting hit through a dropped pallet and 2 steps into a C wall. Unless that killer is gaming from inside the server itself, they don't have a better connection.

Can I provide you with video proof of me being on higher ping and still getting unfair hits that look weird on my screen?

sounds like it's time to take a break from killer and enjoy survivor for a while
