Is it possible to be a killer main but be better at playing survivor?

Yes. Some people find the Survivor role really easy, a select few find the Killer role easier than Survivor.
Playing both sides just gives a huge benefit.

Its pretty much impossible to "main" killer over survivor if you do all the tomes and dailies because every time you play survivor you are practicing the same exact character whereas playing killer you distribute playtime between a bunch of different powers.
Most players are better at survivor because its easier and they have more experience.
