Map Rework Headcanon
Every map is made from the memories of the survivors/killers who were there during their lives, but it's not always perfect as some maps will end up in random places (Temple being in the Red Forest) where they don't belong. But how does that explain the sudden change in appearance for the old maps with some being minor (most of Auto Haven) and some others (Leary's and Ormond) looking mostly different.
So in my headcanon, I think that with rift being more explored as time goes on, the Entity ends up getting more access to memories and thus recreates the areas and maps more accurately. The new/reworked areas are mainly small details that you wouldn't have notice if you were there in person and not looking for it. So how does this tie back to the rift? It could be something as simple as looking too much into the memories is causing the entity to be more aware or the survivors to remember things more clearly.
I just want to know what you guys think of this. I'm kinda tired so it won't make much sense maybe and I'll probably add more to this later and do some editing after more sleep.

You overthinking stuff. It is that it is.

I'm pretty sure there's nothing tied to the lore about the graphical updates. I think the developers just wanted to make the maps look better. It's an interesting idea though.
