Maybe it's both survivor and killer sided

Now HEAR ME OUT

So like every idk new killer release (so about every big update) i notice the game slowly changing from being a little more killer sided to more survivor sided. The in the next update it's the opposite. Looking at the forms around those times, there's a lot if debate on what side the game is more on. So what if they (the devs) just make changes gradually then when it gets more one side then the other they gradually change it back. Either way people are playing the game bh hasn't lost any money so it's not like complaining helps. So i like to think on the bright side. Which is the devs can't make it 50/50 so they change it and like every 6 4 months or so they change sides

I think the game is more dev sided. The devs have a general goal/idea for balance and game design mixed in with trying to run a business. All games reach a point where the devs end up targeting anything fun on both sides and chipping away at things. then the meme of devs targeting fun pops up. The difference with dbd is that Dbd is one of the only isometric games that managed to survive. That means you have 2 really stupid bias sides that strangle each other and defending the devs decisions by proxy.

The survivor's power is split between 4 ppl and u don't need to change much between them. Even when you do, the change is generally small. Meanwhile, the Killer's are going to be hit way more when the devs reach this point, since it's easier to see the bigger nail so to speak. It also hurts more for them cuz the Killer's power is all in one and there's so many different killers so of course it's going to feel really bad and numerous when the devs make changes.

Personally, I don't like this phase in games. Especially the way dbd is doing it. I'm getting pretty close to just not playing anymore.

Something that most people on here don't understand is that the game isn't strictly survivor sided or killer sided, there are moments where the game will favor one side.

For example, if a clown were to go up against a 4man SWF on Haddon, then the game would be very survivor sided. If a God Nurse or Spirit with strong addons were to go up against 4 solo survivors on Shelter woods, then the game would be very killer sided.

    There are some extremes.

    Keys and old moris.

Some maps or tile rng for each side.

Killer addons and different killer in general.

    And more.

Its getting less imo, but there are still things on both sides which you can bring which have a huge impact on the match.

And one thing which many players dont understand is that the skill mix in matches are most of the time not fair. Nobody would think that pistols in counterstrike are op, when a Global elite player destroys Goldplayer with it. In DbD you will most of the time not play with players on the same skill level and you have no way to see it.

I think the issue is more its slightly killer sided at the top top end, but at the average rank its VERY survivor sided (At low ranks its ridiculously killer sided), and more critically the gamefeel for killer is just.... AWFUL. Like truly terrible, cardinal sins of design.

For example, I get why mechanically killers are both first person view and get their camera control taken away constantly. But holy CRAP does that make killer physically frustrating to play.

I don't think radical balance changes are necessary at this point: I have long ago lost the 'this game shouldn't be about looping' fight I fought in 2016, and looping actually landed in an okish spot regardless anyway. However we really need a lot of QOL changes and a lot of love showered on making the actual experience nicer for killers more than anything else, which would create room for survivors gaining power in areas they don't need but do want to have the option to have power in. Every single killer nerf is a slap in the face not because killers are low winrate, but low agency and power, which makes pretty much any major new survivor feature or attempt to change killer stuff that doesn't work very well very traumatic.

Good example of this done well: A lot of killer vets felt new ruin is a nerf. However, new ruin, especially with undying, FEELS way better, despite arguably being weaker than old ruin even comparing the duo to a stand alone perk, because it smooths out the killer experience and gives killers moments that feel very good and which directly reward them for doing things they should do (gen pressure) in a way that is normally absent from the game. Even if you know logically gen pressure is good, it doesn't feel good to lose chases on purpose to maintain it... but that lil zzzzzzaaaap you hear from ruin is a nice bit of direct feedback telling you 'Hey, you did a good thing and directly helped advance your win condition.'

We need more feel good stuff like that, and less pointless frustration. End Game Collapse having such a comically weak 'concede' feature that was designed in such an obviously silly way solely to allow survivors to allow survivors to BM and teabag at gates, creating far more work than was needed, is a good example of why killer mains are often so sensitive: they are very aware their feelings are often not just not prioritized (despite having a pretty decent power level) but actively are worked against in order to make 'bully the killer' a selling point of the game.

There isn't really a debate about what side the game favors.

It's pretty unanimously agreed upon by everyone with high rank/high hours that game is survivor sided and always has been. Typically the only people not agreeing with this are the newer players who don't have as much experience in the game yet to have a good understanding of its balance.
