What is the point of Killer Cosmetics anyways?

The only time you actually see your Killer cosmetic is when you aren't playing the game (Lobby, end game chat)

With the exception of Killer weapon cosmetics, why spend money on something you barley see?**

I like to look cute to the survivors lol. It's the same reasons cosmetics exist in other first person games. Sure I can't see it, but at least I know I look cute and I can flaunt it.

Issa flex, issa cool, issa nice. And who doesn't like to stare at their newly achieved/bought killer skin once in a while? Like the new frank skin from the rift, I look at it.. and move on. The fact we don't see it alot, makes us appreciate it more.

They're mainly for showing off your outfit to the Survivors.

Whether that's worth it to you is up to you.

I always wondered this as well. I think each cosmetics should provide some small buff in some way to make it fun.

    1) I like the skin even if I cant see it

    2) It makes me feel good inside

    3) I can shank survivors in style.

Well if htey did that then you would just constantly see the same exact cosmetics, and the same exact killer. I'll give you an example. Lets say Clown, if one of his cosmetics gave him a buff to have a stronger hindered effect without addons, many Clowns would run it, but what if the cosmetic didn't fit the persons taste, but another cosmetic did however not giving a good of a buff then this other cosmetic. YOu see what I'm getting at, it kinda messes with the creativity for the killer, and the same would be with a survivor, unless your a P3 Clauddette because those guys can blend.

I thought the exact same thing lol. At most the only skin you can see is the weapon and in some cases your hand that’s tied to your overall outfit. Still though I guess it’s to look fashionable to the survivors you play against :)

I like to kill survivors as candle wraith and then message them saying "you got burned." No, I'm not sorry 🤣 Immature? Yes. Sorry? No.

But in order to fix that I imagine that the buffs will be very minimal. Like for Clown a 1 or 2% increase in bottle reloading. If you put on a certain head or body. Some cosmetics could be buffs and others could be for fully cosmetic. This would probably be only for killer and not survivor.

    Intimidation.

It suggests you are so invested in the killer, they shouldn't try to bully you.

Although I have cosmetics on the Oni, and I can't do anything useful with him.

some cosmetics provide straight up advantages like the classic ghostface robes

The reverse works too, like how survivors use default cosmetics to bamboozle the killer (or just to actually get a match). They'll often get noticeably more cocky.

To instill panic upon the survivors? Two of the clown cosmetics cause me to do a double take and avoid him at all costs. The purple one that is already posted in this thread Skarkio and the blighted one.

True and a good strategy too. To be honest, I avoid my P3 killer cosmetics if I don't feel particularly confident. My P3 Bouncy Boi wins zero games.

It gives survivors something to look at when they’re breaking their necks looking back and running full speed.

It's the same as dressing well irl. You want to look cool and express your personality even if you're not spending the day in front of a mirror.

Just for fun? I remember when I first started playing I got chased by a bunny legion and made me laugh watching a giant bunny chasing me, They should have more skins like bunny legion XD

Why do you buy nice clothing in real life if you can only see yourself in a mirror or photograph? 🤪

Interesting perspective! But I respectfully disagree.

Clothing serve more of a function than for other people's opinion. There is comfort, warmth and social norms to consider.

If you wear a garbage bag dress everywhere, your physical and social life will suffer accordingly.

You neither lose nor gain anything from regarding Killer Cosmetics.

I understand it is the same vein of thinking though!

There are third person moris and there's such a thing as just liking something and wanting it in a video game. So what you can't see it during actual gameplay? Although it is true you can't see them as much as survivor cosmetics so it's easy to see how you got to your conclusion of "what's the point" it is because of money and also because there would probably be killers complaining if they only ever gave cosmetics to survivors. I mean... flat out killer mains do exist.

  • All the real life comparisons.

-In real life you can see your limbs and body on a regular basis, in game that is barely a thing if at all.

-In real life it can affect your mood, social interactions, etc.... much less so in a game.

-You can feel different IRL based on what you are wearing, doesn't really work the same in a game.

-Everything is physical and tangible IRL, not some digital good; so it can have all sorts of connections for you, or even be unique to ONLY you if you want to have something made or make it yourself.

    etc, etc....

I just don't like the comparison to IRL because there are too many differences.

    Thank you, I agree.

Not to mention putting effort into your appearance and/or clothing can have real positive impacts on your life (think nice tailored suit in a job interview).

I can understand the point the person was making, but comparing in-game cosmetics to real life fashion and appearance is a stretch.
