Distortion needs some Love :)
More and more aura-reveal perks have been released since Distortion was added to the game and it feels underpowered currently. I add it to a build occasionally, because I like the idea of the perk, but often it's entirely eaten up before the first generator is completed. This feels like a wasted perk more often than not.
I offer this feedback because, to me, Distortion in its current form does not efficiently work as a Detector or as a Counter, due to its limited number of tokens.
I have two suggestions to change the perk, depending on the desired use:
1. Detection & Scratch Mark Concealer
If the intent is for the perk to work as aura-reading detection, I think a helpful change would be to remove the 'hidden aura' effect and just have it active for the whole trial as something that lights up when your aura is revealed. Once your aura is no longer revealed, the scratch mark removal element of the perk would take effect. The perk would have a cooldown, much like other scratch-mark-concealing perks such as Dance With Me and Deception. A survivor can then, throughout the game, make a decision to change their playstyle based on what they determine is revealing their aura, much like Spine Chill has them decide whether to flee, hide or commit etc.
Alternatively, the scratch mark element could be removed, and Distortion could activate all the time, much like Spine Chill.
2. Aura Reveal Counter
If the intent is to counter killer aura-reading, I feel Distortion would work better with a countdown, starting with a number of seconds. The perk would begin to consume those seconds when a survivor's aura is revealed, but stop should the survivor behave in a way that then hides their aura. I believe for this version of the perk, the scratch mark element could be removed.
Currently, if a survivor is revealed due to Nurses' Calling, the effect on distortion is lose-lose. An entire third of the perk is consumed due to a 1-second medkit tap regardless of if the survivor chooses to continue healing in that area or decides to move to a safe location out of aura-reading distance. I feel changing the perk to work with seconds rather than tokens would allow survivors to make more rewarding decisions. Do I remain in this situation that is revealing my aura and consume seconds, or do I move somewhere else to preserve my hidden aura for later in the game?
Since the perk has 3 elements to it, Detection and both Scratch Mark and Aura Concealment, I'm sure there are other ways it could be changed to better specialize in those elements, but these were my main ideas :)
