Game Ranking Changes
Discussion to fix ranking: I've been thinking of this for a while and I think the shards/pip progress should be based against the killer you are playing. Here's how it works as it applies to me...
I'm rank 7. Players that are rank 5 - 9 (+ or - 2 ranks) are considered equals and their shards/pip progress is normal. For those who are further from my rank their "points" would be multiplied by a fraction that changes based on how many ranks different they are. (For example, a rank 4 would have their points multiplied by .8, so it is harder for them to pip. A rank 16 would have their points multiplied by 1.4 since he should die a lot faster to a rank 7 and if he survives he is rewarded accordingly.) Killer pipping is based on the survivors and likewise, if I killed a rank 2, I would get more points towards pipping than if I killed a rank 12.
*The "points" mentioned here are not blood points, but just the points used to determine your value for progress with shards and pipping.
Other changes related to ranking: The first 5 (arbitrary number) games of any killer should not count for or against pipping. This option can be turned off as well (for more experienced killer players or if the killer is similar to one you've already played.) This would enable you to learn some about how the killer's power works and the best ways to apply that power.
Blood points: Tying this system to blood points would also encourage survivors to play with like ranked survivors (HIGHLY recommend you enable seeing ranks/colors of ranks in lobby). So when a red rank joins a friend who is new to the game, the red rank will get very little blood points since the killer will be a yellow/brown rank. Yes, I have played against this exact thing when I was a new killer.
Matchmaking: Enabling the ability to see the actual ranks or the rank colors of the survivors (for both survivors and killers) would help to find lobbies that are suited for them and let the killer know what they are getting into. If the killer wants easier matches, then they can pick them, but they will take much longer to level up and they will receive less blood points.
Blood points bonus per tier: To encourage players on both sides to play harder, as you progress from color to color you get a bonus multiplier towards blood points, with red tier players receiving the highest bonus for blood points. This would seriously cut down on the grind.
Individual killer rating (not rank): While I didn't play under MMR, my understanding was that it was supposed to have individual scores for each killer for matches. I like this idea as there are killers (Nurse, Bubba, Myers) that I only play when I have a daily or rift challenge specific for them. Killers are not "skins" like survivors. When I play Nurse (which I hate), I should not be matched against survivors that are geared for me playing one of my favorite killers.
Baseline Scoring:
My understanding is that the game is supposed to be balanced at 2 kills, 2 escaped, with all 4 survivors being double hooked. Not sure if this is true.
Regardless, a balanced game, whatever it is set at, should mean a black pip for the killer. (I've seen killers get 4Ks in very short order and only get a black pip. This seems wrong to me because the main objective of the killer is to kill the survivors. A 4K, regardless of how short it was, should result in a pip up, IF played against like ranked survivors.)
Likewise, the baseline for a survivor needs to be established. I've never heard of one. I know I've ranked up as a survivor even if I've died. I've seen people do nothing but gens and get very little points (which is odd because gens are the main objective...) Maybe doing 2 gens, 2 safe hook rescues and healing survivors 1 health state. Shrugs.
If anyone knows where the game is supposed to be balanced at, and what the expected baseline to get a black pip for survivor and killer, please let me know.
Just my thoughts.
