DBD Tournaments

I just watched the Grand Final of the most recent "Best of the Best" Tournament, between Agony and Oracle. So fun to have these tournaments.

But, it really is just another Spirit or Nurse game, again and again. 2 games where played where both killers where Pyramid Head which did not work out well for any killer LOL. Spirit and Nurse are the only killers that can match up against such good survivor teams?

I feel there should be a rule that a team can only play a killer once during the series. This could be used for a lot of fun strategies. Do you start with the best killers first or save them for last. This will also force some more interesting gameplay throughout the series. Maybe if the series went to overtime of some sorts, then you can choose whatever killer again.

What do you guys think?

So as you know, best of the best tourney is a fan Tourney, they are the ones that balance stuff around and well simply spirit and nurse are the best killers in the whole game.

So to put simply in order to make a tourney and change stuff that is on them what they choose and what not to.

Btw that tourney was fun but horrible at the end, like 6 hours of "oh no this perk is bugged so I demand a re do"

both team's killers have dedicated Spirit and Nurse's mains. That was not the first game agony and oracle faced each other, both teams knew if they picked any other killer it was lost. I think sadly even Hag who are almost as viable as Spirit would struggle.

If we had more tools to work with... like

Map pools or have programed seed variants

Killer pools or killer removal (Like using a killer once per round or series)

    Perk pools or perk removal

These might make the tournaments more entertaining (Maybe)

    Totally agree.

I feel I watched basically the same game over and over, but with different maps.

I know, the game really is best suited for casual gameplay, but to watch the most talented people face off is fun in every way!

    Exactly, and in DBD.

The only thing that we can do is make the best of it, right?

BOTB was one of many tournaments. Certainly the most visible. Multiple tournaments happen every week and they all have different rules. Some have killer restrictions, Russian tournaments typically don't allow kobe attempts, some allow add ons or perks that others don't, etc.

I've been around the comp scene for a while. Killer variety is fun in the earlier rounds, but it's a gen simulator if you force killers other than Nurse/Spirit against even top 16 teams a lot of the time. The level of play in BOTB was a lot lower than the typical 32 team tournament. The NA rosters had a lot of subs and a few top EU teams couldn't play because of ping even though we as players have been used to dealing with that for a while.

Tournaments are a thing that exist and I really, really hope people stop taking them even remotely seriously because this is such an RNG-based game that shows off no skill because of gen speeds and a lack of interactive chases.

I just had a trial against a tournament squad holding tryouts. 3-minute gens and nothing but W holding and basic looping because that's the most effective tactic. Please, just stop. Tournaments for fun with wierd and whacky stuff that isn't serious at all, like the Into The Fog one, are awesome and fun because they are so self-aware. Serious sweaty ones just hurt the community by making other people think this game is tournament ready.

Could we hold a worst of the worst tournament?

I really feel like I could have a shot in that one.

The problem is it's not the best out there , not everyone knows about these things before they happen and often don't sign up in time , also there's way too much camping and tunneling in the tournament for it to be considered skill based anyway, if I wanted to see someone get hard proxy camped and tunneled out I'd find a rank 20 streamer and watch them

BOTB was very nurse/spirit heavy. Just about every tournament will include them, and unfortunately it's for a good reason. For the most part, M1 killers simply aren't good enough, because the balance of this game when played in the way of a classic M1 chase is incredibly survivor sided if they know how to capitalize off of this advantage. This isn't to say that other killers can't do well, simply that they will be much less consistent, so nurse and spirit are simply stronger options at the top level. Given that these two killers are so fundamentally different from other killers, it goes to show that the game only swings to a more balanced level (at this level of play) when spirit or nurse are involved. Hag also falls into this category of being incredibly unique, and while she is really powerful, the fact that she has to prep, and also has more counter-play than the other two, means that she isn't quite as powerful.

One last things, scoring of tournaments has somewhat evolved to encourage hooking various survivors rather than just getting a kill, I know many people dislike the camping aspect. It's still necessary sometimes, but it it's better to go for every survivor to be hooked a lot of the time.

The top tier killers were played because the gap between the tiers is huge lol.

Good teams deal with that though. Tactics factor in to the outcome just as much as skill. Easiest way to throw a game in a tournament is to try and 12 hook. You can say camping/tunneling is braindead, but playing super aggro is equally dumb against a high level team if the ultimate goal is a 4k.

I agree with you , I just don't like watching that playstyle to be honest
