Devotion level, 25k shards and 1 million bloodpoints at every launch of the game

Not a bug I got personally, but my friend who plays with me.
After a game, his game crashed and he got an error message of missing file. On Steam he right-clicked the game and went => properties => local files => verify integrity of local files. Steam found one missing file and downloaded it back. The game was working again but he was now Devotion 1 Lv 1, when previously he was only level 24. He also got all the iridescent shards he would have gotten if he passed the 100 levels, around 25k shards.
Later that day the game crashed again, and he had to do the same thing to fix the game, and now he was Devotion 2 Lv 1, with 25k more shards and 1 million BP, and that time he went from Survivor level 13 to 5.
Now every time he launches the game he gets 1 million BP and 1 Devotion level with 25k shards.
I told him I have no idea of what's going on, wether he got hacked during a match or if it's a bug in the game. To me tho, it looks like he got hacked during a game, because everything happening is just beneficial to him (exept maybe the survivor rank inscrese, as he is playing against people with far superior experience than him now). I asked him seriously if it was his doing and he said no, he has no idea what's going on, since I know him well in real life since a long time, I don't see a reason not to believe him, if he was hacking he would have just told me.
Out of curiossity I tried to do a file integrity verification on my game and nothing happened, Steam said I have all the right files and that's it, so it doesn't look like anyone can replicate this situation.
