I haven't played this game in a few months so I think this is a recent change but I find now that notifications with IF are very buggy.
You get the visible bubbles but no screams (no iron will either), and in other cases I've had screams but no bubble. It used to be very obvious the scream and bubble but now it seems spotty at best.
