Why do I lose rank progress whenever I get killed?

Is this normal? I have asked my friends and this seems to never happen to them. I started out this am as rank 14 and now I’m 17. In the games I get killed I finish first or second place too and they usually last over 10 mins. When I play with my friends I usually do better than them too so it’s not like I am a bad player. I tried to search for this and nothing has come up. I lose rank even when the killer isn’t tunneling me too, but I just don’t happen to escape. I just want to make sure this is normal and not a bug seeing as it doesn’t Happen with anyone I know personally irl.

    Rank progress is not based on how much points you have anymore, it's based on how "good" you play whole match - doing objectives, healing yourself, mending, escape, healing others, rescuing from hooks, safe rescues, evading killer, losing killer, doing totems etc.
