Something I learned today
I am relatively new to the game, I have 130 hours and I just learned that on the map "the game" the hatch can't spawn on the upper floor.
Does this also apply to other maps that have a second floor? Like Midwich?
Maybe I am just dumb but I feel like the game should tell you this, maybe as a tip during the loading screen?

It can spawn on the stairs of midwhich. But not on the second floor .

The hatch will always spawn on the bottom floor on all maps, but sometimes it'll spawn on platforms raised off of the ground. For an example, on Midwich, it can spawn on the stairs. On Mothers Dwelling, it can spawn on the hills. Then on Blood Lodge, it can spawn in the house/building.
All in all, just make sure you look everywhere you can and you'd be surprised as to where it can spawn sometimes.

I remember when I checked top floor once because I swear I checked everywhere and couldn't find it. It's make logical sense you jump through a hatch on a 2nd floor your dropping to the 1st floor in the same building so I never checked a 2nd floor again. btw hatch was on first floor that game in a place I swear I looked pesky hatch.

The hatch can actually spawn on the upper floor; however it will only spawn in the exit gate areas. The general rule is that the hatch cant spawn in a location that has empty space underneath it with the exception of the basement.

As a generalrule, the hatch will always spawn in a way that enables it to have solid ground underneath, except in the incredibly rare instance it spawns above the Basement.
