How is this possible? (Outfit mixing)

So I recently saw a stream, where one of the survivors the streamer was playing with had this really nice Kate outfit mix. Now the thing is the head is from an outfit that can not be mixed with other ones, I tried it but it does not work.

So the question is, how is it possible that this survivor could but I couldn't?

    Get matched into a lobby then start cycling between the linked piece you want and a non-link piece and then it will mix, you can then leave the lobby and you'll keep your mixed outfit.
